Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi’s collaboration with Cage was one I was looking most forward to.  If Cudi is the current darling of “emo-hop”, a somewhat silly and pointless way to describe Hip Hop music that shies away from guns and drugs (well not so much drugs), then Cage is the genre’s forefather.  Neither artist cares very much for the term (surprise, surprise), nevertheless they don’t change their style to avoid such classifications.  “Maniac” is a deep cut, complete with a robotic feminine voice telling us to “paint the black hole blacker”, while Kid Cudi looks for a marker, and Cage finds the paint.  Imagine a room with no sunlight, and these two bouncing off the walls.  Cage told us about working with Cudi in our August interview, in which he also spoke out the falling out with Def Jux and much more.  Cudi’s new LP, Man on The Moon Part II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, is set for a November 9th release.  You can also read up on Cudi collaborator Emile, in this new edition of Treasurechest’s Vault.  Grab the track below.
