Marvel’s Daredevil has been an amazing success for both Marvel and Netflix. Reviews have been stellar since the entire first season was released on April 10th, further building to Marvel’s ability to turn almost everything they touch to gold. With the precedent of quality set for the rest of the upcoming Netflix-exclusive series (Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones is coming later this year while Marvel’s Luke Cage is scheduled for 2016 and the other two series, Marvel’s Iron Fist and Marvel’s Defenders are slated for some indeterminate time in the future), it was only a matter of time before Marvel and Netflix announced a second season of Daredevil.
Sure enough, the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil was officially greenlit yesterday. However, a few changes will be made for the hit series’ continuation. Steven DeKnight, Season 1’s showrunner that took over following Drew Goddard’s exit during pre-production, won’t be returning due to prior commitments. Instead, Doug Petrie (American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) will both serve as showrunner.
While we absolutely loved Marvel’s Daredevil, there’s still room for improvement. Hopefully, Petrie and Ramirez are able to recognize some of Season 1’s shortcomings to ensure Season 2 will be just as good, if not better. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to re-watch the entire season… again.
