Mayer Hawthorne

Mayer Hawthorne has announced a new record deal with Universal Republic, jumping on to the major label side after crashing the music party with his 2009 debut, A Strange Arrangement, which was released via the Cali independent label Stones Throw.  The album was a surprise hit, even to Hawthorne, who told us back in ’09 that he originally recorded the records just for himself and his close friends before handing them off to Peanut Butter Wolf, who thought they were old records that Hawthorne had found.  Along with the announcement of his new deal, he is also prepping for the release of his sophomore set, which will be titled How Do You Do, and is lead off by the single, “A Long Time”.

Mayer Hawthorne will be in Chicago as part of the Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars tour. Following his set, he will be hitting Beauty Bar for the return of RubyHornet’s Digital Freshness where he will be DJing alongside Rude 1 and VIPJ.  Tickets are available now, peep the Digital Freshness info here.
