Menomena is the heir to Morphine’s considerable legacy. Maybe its the prevalence of woodwinds with both bands, but the two seem at times to be cut from the same cloth. Menomena skews more in the 21st century electronic aesthetic than Morphine’s early 90’s mournful indie rock. Either way Menomena has created another great album with the upcoming release of Mines. Taos is a great example of what you get throughout the album, a five minute romp moving flipping tempos on a dime and inserting a multitude of interesting musical elements. ??You can pick up Mines via Barsuk Records.
