Mobb Deep’s recording career was put on a hiatus when Prodigy, one half of the Queensbridge duo, went to jail in 2007. Prodigy returned home on March 7th, and immediately there was buzz of new music, complete with pics and video from new recording sessions. Here we have the first piece of new music from Havoc and Prodigy in the form of “Dog S**t”, featuring fellow QB native Nas, and co-production from Mobb’s frequent collaborator, The Alchemist. The cast of characters, all picked because of their relationships as well as skill, provide the right mix and Mobb Deep comes back properly. Too many times the first new song from any artist after a long hiatus falls short, but this new joint leaves little to be desired as Alchemist taps into the classic Mobb Deep alongside Havoc. All eyes and ears will be on Prodigy now that he is back, and will undoubtedly have a lot to talk about. Here he eases back into things well. He announces his return while avoiding the temptation to put everything into the first verse, on the verse song back.
