Banraku is the story of an alternate reality, somewhere between the American wild west and Oriental cultures of the far east, where guns do not exist and being the best fighter ensures power. The film draws on Japanese shadow puppet theater as inspiration for its visual styling and will draw many comparisons to films like Sin City. Starring Josh Hartnett and Gackt as the unlikely duo of a cowboy and samurai out for revenge, they embark on a journey to bring down the evil empire that Ron Perlman heads. Its diverse cast also includes Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Shun Sugata. Written and directed by Guy Moshe, Banraku is shaping up to be an action packed feature, perfect for the transition between summer blockbusters and the off months of winter.
