Today is Naledge’s birthday and he celebrates with a gift to his fans. Naledge Is Twenty Something is hosted by WGCI’s DJ Moondawg (Aphillates) and features 19 new tracks recorded over the last 2 years since Naledge returned home to Chicago. Guest features on the mixtape include Willie The Kid and Vandalyz, Murs, Sulaiman, GLC, Mikkey Halsted, Skyzoo, Freddie Gibbs and more. I had the chance to be at the studio for the all the recording for “I Ain’t Like You”, which actually spanned about a year. Mikkey Halsted recorded his verse right after we did the song “Swagger Like Chi”, just before Kidz In The Hall went on tour with Murs, and the first Brainiac Society Mixtape. Skyzoo recorded his verse while he was in town for our show at The Darkroom, right after the completion of our Closed Sessions track, “Crack The Code”. The project follows of theme of life in your 20’s, and is articulated below by ILLROOTS.
“In hip-hop nowadays, it seems as though no age group is off limits. As more and more of our favorite rappers get older and older, the spotlight still remains on whoever manages to make the hottest songs. Naledge reached out to us a few months ago with the interest in having illRoots present his next solo mixtape, the well rounded Twenty Something with DJ Moondawg. A really great project with features from Freddie Gibbs, Skyzoo, GLC, Murs, Mikkey Halsted and others.”
