Nico

“I like to write cause I like to ride trains.”

Nico Segal is best known as the  trumpet player in Kids These Days, but on this forthcoming project Illasoul: Shades of Blue, he steps behind the mic to present his own form of poetry.  The forthcoming album is a great blend of jazz, Hip Hop, and  spoken word, something that Nico has worked on over the years via Louder Than A Bomb as well as his side project, Daskat.  The album was recorded during the fall, mostly at SoundScape Studios.  It is a labor of love, and just another form of expression for the young musician.   The album’s first release, “Dreamy”, features his band mate Macie Stewart, and is somewhat of a manifesto for his love of the spoken word and the written rhyme over soulful production from J. Dilla.  The full project, which will be released via RubyHornet, is an introduction to Nico as a poet and also features appearances from Malcolm London, Vic Mensa, and Coldhard of Crucial Conflict.

Download “Dreamy” below.  And check back for much more from Nico Segal in the coming weeks.
