A few days ago I posted the trailer to Nike Sportswear’s new iPhone app “The True City”. Little was known about that app until it dropped yesterday via the iPhone app store. So the “The True City” app is a combination of Yelp, Facebook, Twitter, Google Maps and good taste all rolled up into one. Their slogan of “Making The Hidden Visible” is just that through Nike insiders, tastemakers, and trendsetters who know their cities inside and out. “The True City” app is not guide book but an organic program, which evolves and grows and is updated with news, locations and all things hip and relevant in real time. Insiders create a profile which lets users get to know them better, and get a glimpse of local living in their city. Visitors can also provide their own opinions and contribute to the application. According to FreshnessMag:
“Aside from in-depth geo-tagging ability where one can mark out a special sneaker boutique and point out fun items to look out for, or dishes to try at a local joint, Nike Sportswear will also “make the hidden visible” to True City users by providing exclusive preview into upcoming events and product launches. All content can be shared through Facebook, creating a larger community aside from the realm of iPhone.”
As of yesterday the app includes the cities of London, Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Paris. Hopefully other cities will be added in the future but for now don’t be a tourists in these great cities and get to know what the locals already know. Download app HERE
