Rick Ross: "Free Masons" featuring Jay-Z

Three JFK' punchlines in a row... we get it. Perhaps the most anticipated track (shortly behind the Kanye joint) leaked this weekend. The anticipation comes from the Jay-Z features, as well as the "Free Masons" title and the constant rumors that Jay-Z has sold his soul and join a secret society. His answer, "I'm a badmothf**ker, it's Hov." Sure, I'll take it...
John Legend is also on the track, but the title was getting a little long. Ross' new LP, Teflon Don drops July 20th. He's in Chicago next week Tuesday. Grab the track below.

BrandUn Deshay: "Two Weeks"

For one reason or another (or sometimes reasons and plenty of them), a lot of relationships don’t work out. Brandun DeShay describes personal experience with this as he goes in over Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks. He delivers a relaxed flow that feels very natural with the vocal harmonies created by the Brooklyn-based band. The song is short but it sounds great and I’m sure many listeners can relate.
Blu Reissues

Time flies. 2007 was three years ago. It was then that Blu paired up with Emanon producer, Exile, for his debut album, Below the Heavens. The album quickly received rave reviews on all fronts and the West Coast rapper was consequently dubbed a rising star. Since then, his career has been a bit less straightforward than I expected. He came out with 2 albums that were entirely done by him, the rapping, production, etc. Unfortunately, both albums were leaked and listeners were given over 30 tracks with subpar sound quality.
Here’s some good news…both Her Favorite Colo(u)r and The Godlee Barnes LP are being officially released in a 2-disc set on August 24th. Both albums will be mixed and mastered. For those of you who have not heard either of these albums, expect a nice mesh of Blu’s heartfelt lyrics, beats that are truly tailored for each song, and an abundance of sampling from both movies and other musicians.
Japandroids: "Younger Us"

Two guys, one guitar, one huge sound. One of my favorite bands going right now, 2009's debut, Post-Nothing was easily one of the best albums of the year and is still in constant rotation on the pod. Since then the guys have come out with a couple of singles, one of which is "Younger Us" released as a 7" on Polyvinyl. The single continues everything that is great about the band the rhythm is so punchy it feels like it could fall off the rails at any second. The vocals are just pushed out there as hard and loud as possible. It conveys just the overwhelming energy of the band, kinetic, engulfing, fantastic.

DJ Shadow: "Def Surrounds Us" (Radio Rip)

You know it is a special day when we receive a new DJ Shadow track. The Entroducing… veteran producer is busy on the road, and working on his new album, which is not due until 2011. When speaking on "Def Surrounds Us" to BBC Radio 1's DJ Zane Low, Shadow spoke on the samples he used for the track, “It had all these weird textures in it and weird vocal treatments and there was something really atmospheric about it and I just gravitated towards it. I kinda built a beat around it inspired by some dub-step, a bit of electro, a bit of drum ‘n’ bass, but at the same time I wanted to make something completely different from all three.”
One of the originators of such fusion between electronic and Hip Hop music, Shadow provides a clear example of how these genres have collided for the better in recent times. This track reminds me a lot of the recent experimental Hip-Hop/glitch group PANTyRAiD's release 'The Sauce', which is a must hear for hip-hop/ dub/ glitch fans.
