Kanye West: "Power" Live at The BET Awards

Kanye West

For some, the most anticipated part of the BET Awards came and went within the first 5 minutes.  Kanye West opened the show by performing his newest piece of music, "Power". Kanye's stage took the shape of a volcano, came equipped with special effect fire blasts, and a green screen that took Kanye seemingly from paradise into a snow storm. I actually filmed this with my flip cam, but ah, it didn't come out too well. Check out Worldstar's ripped after the jump.

The Roots x John Legend: "My Generation" (Ernie Hines Cover)

John Legend and The Roots

The Roots and John Legend participated in Levi's pretty fresh Pioneer Sessions. Legend and The Roots took on the Ernie Hines classic, "Our Generation". I thought at first it was "My Generation" from The Who and got really amped.  That woulda be sick... This is pretty dope as well.  Hit the jump for the track and the video.

RH First Look: Vic Mensa

"The only way it's really affected me personally is by making me feel like I have to get it popping ASAP while I still am so young, but a bit of motivation never hurt anyone," says Vic Mensa, the youngest member of Brainiac Society a collective of artists, DJs, and producers handpicked by Naledge of Kidz In The Hall.

Mensa was added to the crew in the winter of 2009, attending studio sessions as soon as the final bell rang at Chicago's Whitney Young where he is still a student. "I’ve pretty much always been able to get by in school without having to do too much, so I've really just kept on doing what I've been doing. There have been those nights when I miss homework time because I'm in the studio, but it's all good."

It's all good because Mensa displays "better than good" emceeing abilities. Put in his music and it's very easy to forget that he's not old enough to vote. On the heels of his first release, an EP titled Straight Up, we turn our First Look spotlight on Chicago's youngest hopeful, Vic Mensa.

Curren$y: "The Day" featuring Mos Def and Jay Electronica (prod. by Ski Beatz)

Pilot Talk

"So sorry if I don't look happy to be here, in your label office but they say I can't smoke weed here."

A few days ago I asked whether or not Curren$y's audience would be receptive to his forthcoming major label record, Pilot Talk, which will be released via Def Jam... Well, if it's full of more songs like "The Day", the answer should be a resounding yes! Over Ski Beatz production Curren$y and Jay Electronica lay out verses retelling "the day" when they came into their own in terms of the direction of their music.  While Curren$y talks about walking out of label adjectives and taking the music to his home studio with his own work style, Jay Electronica tackles Chuck D vs. Flavor Flav and all that comes with it. Mos Def serves as a narrator pushing the story along, and it sounds brilliant.

I was actually going to write out all the word, but it just didn't work out.  Get it below.

Chromeo's new jam hit my inbox on Friday afternoon as "a song for the weekend."   I hit the Cubs/Sox game Friday and missed it, then took part of the weekend off.   With a few hours left to spare on Sunday, we give you "Don't Turn The Lights On", which will appear on the duo's forthcoming LP, Business Casual.   The song premiered on Stereogum, and can be found just after the jump.
