Drake: "Show Me A Good Time" (prod. by Kanye West)

Drake

"can we kick it like Ali Shaheed and Phife Dawg, people really hate when a backpack rapper gets rich and start living that life dawg."

I think Drake's full album is leaking pretty fast. This is where I would make a reference to the gulf coast, but I shall refrain. A bevy of track CDQ's wound up in my inbox this morning including "Show Me A Good Time", which is produced by Kanye West. Check it out below.

Francis and The Lights: "For Days"

Francis and The Lights

The second I hit play on this track from Francis and The Lights I thought to myself, 'yeah, I'm f**king with this.' And what else would you expect from a band fronted by one Francis Farewell Starlite? "For Days" may possibly be the most magical song about stalking that's been recorded, and that doesn't even touch the ambiguous nature of Starlite's target, which could be a love interest or even an enemy on the battlefield. The song appears on the band's recently released LP, the succinct and focused It'll Be Better, released not too long ago. Download the song below via RCRDLBL, and also check out Francis and The Lights' latest video for "Darling, It's Alright".

Christian Rich: "Malicious" featuring Shanelle

Decadence

Christian Rich release another one from their buzzing mixtape, Decadence. I've been hearing a lot of different things about the brothers since fall of '08, let's see what happens with the June 7th release. For now, dig on "Malicious" featuring Young Money's Shanelle.

Mateo: "Empire State of Mind Part III" Video

Mateo

Mateo first showed up in our iTunes when he was featured on a track by Emilio Rojas. Today he hits our inbox via Quddus, who makes his own directorial debut with this video for "Empire State of Mind Part III" off Mateo's latest mixtape. The video and the song take a different than Jay-Z's version where Jay warns of the pitfalls of NYC while Hype Williams celebrates its landmarks. Mateo paints himself as the person who was lured in by the bright lights, and the city where dreams are made off, while Quddus' video focuses on the people of NYC rather than its statues and buildings. Good work all around, and if I was from NYC I bet I would like it that much more. Enjoy below.

I Need A Blogger, Blogger, Blogger That's What I Need...

Help Wanted

...Hey Hey... To borrow and then slightly reword a line from Aloe Blacc, I need a blogger (or multiple bloggers). Specifically, I need people who can approach and write about music kind of the way I do so that I can focus on other things to build the site/brand. The same goes for people to write about fashion. Now, it seems simple enough, but it's tough to find good writers who want to work for a burgeoning music and culture site. I've found it tough, and beyond Ashydakid and Kevin Fairbanks (and Jeff), who supplied many months of good blogging/writing, it's been slim pickings for bloggers over here. I realize that part of the issue is that writing takes up most of my time, so that going through resumes and other things to find writers sometimes gets lost in the shuffle and it becomes a cycle that repeats itself. But... no more. I'm making it my mission to add 3-5 bloggers for RubyHornet by the end of the month, and I thought where better to start than we the people that come to the site everyday?

If you're interested in being forwarded emails containing new tracks, being sent links of other posts to reposts, and doing interviews on short notice with artists you may or may not have heard of please email me directly at Alex@RubyHornet.com. Please title the email "I'm your blogger" and just tell me a little bit about yourself and why you'd like to blog for us. I'll do the rest. Please help us help ourselves... And it's a great way to spend a summer vacation!
