This is R. Kelly’s first ever mixtape, and he told MTV that the goal was to take, “it all the way back to when I first started; all I had was my demo. It’s a way to start fresh, be humble. It’s like being a new artist. This is my demo tape for my fans.”
R. Kelly teamed up with DJ Drama and DJ Skee for the tape, which will serve as the precursor to his next proper LP, a project that Kelly will release as Untitled. No, it’s not in the same vein as Nas’ 2008 offering, Kelly is hoping that fans name the album based on their reactions to it. He said, “I want whoever listens to the record to call it what they want, name it themselves based on what they feel listening to the music.”
