CHANEL

In the midst of the Resort 2010 collections, designers are releasing their looks in various places on the globe from Venice to Milan and of course, New York City.  The origin of the idea of resort wear, sometimes referred to as cruise wear, was created to wear on an extravagant vacation to an exotic location, often during the holiday season.   Resort is a time where designers create easy, soft, more wearable looks in a smaller collection that flow into the following spring season.  The 2010 Resort collections remain true to these roots, but there were definitely a few shows and pieces that stood out from the rest.

Rag & Bone:  Rag & Bone’s collection offered a variety of pieces meant to be mixed and matched for an effortlessly cool look.  The looks showed layering pieces, shrunken blazers, complete denim ensembles, and cashmere thermal leggings.  Designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright hit the nail on the head with their mix of tailored and relaxed pieces.

Yigal Azrouel:  Yigal Azrouel’s show presented us with a sophisticated way of dress and expression with complete looks that you could wear to an art show, a gala, to dinner, or even a stroll on the beach.  The color palette is absolutely stunning with neutrals, black and white, and sporadic pops of jewel tones that make you want to stare.  Azrouel has a unique way of making a turban work with every look!  We want it all!

Chanel:  Chanel… nearly leaves us speechless. But since this is a blog, we’ll shed some light…  Karl Lagerfeld did it again with his extensive breathtaking show of over 70 different looks, a characteristic that is only common with luxury and couture labels.  The show took place on the boardwalk in Venice at sunset with the models glowing in 1920s inspired make-up and hair dos.  Lagerfeld stuck to the classic Chanel colors, black and white, but pumped up the volume with hints of a rich red and some brown tones.  True to the foundations that Coco built, this collection brought us new takes on the classic tweed suits, red carpet glam, as well as statement making beachwear.  All of this for men and women to boot!  This is by far the best Resort show, so far, and with the absence of Dior this season, not too many designers will come close.  I mean, just look at those sunglasses…
