Last weekend, Sir Michael Rocks hosted a release party/concert for his August 2nd project, Lap Of LuxWhile the night was clearly dedicated to the skinny n*gga of the year & his Toothpickclique, Sir Mike decided he also wanted to add some other names to the bill, those names being rising artists from the “new Chicago” scene, Kembe X, Alex Wiley & Nico Segal.

“I saw an opportunity to bring some of my homies on and rock with me at the show, and I think that’s a good look man. Because, I feel that everyone performing here tonight can be a star in their own right,” Sir Michael Rocks said when asked about the lineup. “I like to put on my guys that are also doing well here in the city, spread the awareness, and bring in some more cats that represent what I’m trying to represent, and fit that mold man. However I can do it, I’m going to do it.”

Rocks was recently profiled in the MTV2 Sucker Free episode fully dedicated to Chicago, where he was featured as part of artists categorized as the “young O.G’s.” When asked about that role and acting as an “Uncle” to some of these newcomers, Rocks said that such a figure was absent during his initial comeup with The Cool Kids.  He is trying to provide some guidance that he didn’t have.

“I felt like I was already an O.G. when I was back their age. I came in and all the older cats was talking to me like I was their peer,” he said.  “But that’s not a bad thing. I matured early and I already asserted myself as somebody who was going to take the wheel on this…  I used to wish there was somebody who would come help me out and school me to some game, but as I got a little older, I was like ‘damn, I guess I’m supposed to be teaching that to others. I guess I already knew it.’

Sir Michael Rocks also recognizes the benefit of Chicago artists helping each other, and pulling each other out.  He said, “Now that there is someone new who could use my help, I want to give them help. Especially if they cool, and on some fresh sh*t. I want to see them win, I want to see this state of mind continue, so I’m going to keep pushing it forward.”
