Well, it’s been a while since I’ve actually sat down and thought about what has been going on in my life, I normally never look back… Lets see, since the last time I wrote to RubyHornet I think I was getting ready to play Lollapalooza, and working on a lot of new music… Lollapalooza was everything I thought it was going to be and more. I mean, I’m always nervous whenever I DJ, but playing Lollapalooza put the excitement back into my job. I’ve stepped away from playing music people expect to hear and have been focusing on educating people. I mean there are always things in one person’s job they have to do that they don’t like, my job is no different.
2009 has been an amazing year, I’ve been apart of things I could never really imagine and have been getting a lot of really good attention locally as well as nationally. I’ve had the honor of becoming a staple in one of Chicago’s best dance parties ” REHAB AT DEBONAIR” as the resident DJ for the party. It’s going very well, so well actually that we won an award from Paper Magazine as “AMERICA’S BEST PARTY” it was all pretty crazy. None of us ever thought Rehab would get that kind of attention nationally.
I have been traveling a lot and one of my favorite places to go right now is MIAMI.. I fell in love with the city so much that I am actually starting a monthly party out there and I’m calling it Silver Screen Shower Scene, named after one of my favorite tracks by Felix Da Housecat. I also started a pretty cool monthly party at Skybar on Lincoln Ave, it takes place every second Saturday of the month. I named the party “Sloppy Seconds” only to later find out that a mutual friend of mine throws a party in Atlanta that has the same name…
I’ve never really looked forward to a new year like I am looking forward to 2010.. there are so many goals I have set for myself that I am already half way to reaching. I have got the support of some really good people. This monthly in miami is looking like it’s going to be a blast, and events for SXSW & WMC are really taking off.
Also in ’09 I fell in love with this social network called TWITTER. If you don’t have one, get one!! And then follow me! @killskyler. But I warn you, I say exactly what’s on my mind, and some people I guess can’t handle it. Now that I think about it. Maybe there is something the readers of RubyHornet could help me with… On my way to this club where one of my most favorite DJ’s ever was preforming, and there was another artist on the bill that I am not very fond of, so I posted on my Twitter page how excited I was to see my favorite DJ… And not so excited to see the other artist…. The next day, the artist that I wasn’t too thrilled to see, decided to write me a message on facebook..
I’m keeping the name private for obvious reasons, but here is the Facebook conversation:

Are you mad that I am not a fan? All I said was I was not that thrilled to see you at soundbar.. Why would I directly send you a message On any network when I don’t know you on any type of personal level.. I’m not a fan of your music.. Never was and never will be.. And I’m sure there are people that feel the same about my music.. That’s just the way things are… If you take what people right on Twitter personal.. Than you’re in the wrong business…

Have a blessed day!

P.S. When you read the words “f**k that b**ch” and general trash talking and the person doing that talking lives in your city and knows people you know its different. Also why are you on my fb if you don’t like my music? Doesn’t make sense.
……………………………………………..
I was trying to send the artist one last message but the artist I guess wanted to have the last word so badly that they blocked me on facebook..But here it is..

1. I didnt write “F**K THAT B**CH” a follower of mine on Twitter did.
2. Am I supposed to keep my mouth shut and like your music because we share a few friends?
Sorry I am not as fake as a lot of people around you.. or out here.. Like I said, I don’t know you on a personal level. You might be cool, but all I know about you is your music.. and I am not a fan. End of story..
Things like this annoy me. I am always going to stand up for what I truly believe in, and I will never apologize for things I have done/said *unless it’s absolutely necessary.* I am proud of my fellow Chicago artists.. ’09 has been an amazing year for everyone.. But it doesn’t mean I have to like your music…
Until next time internet world… be safe… and always keep your eyes open!
