Bill Murray in Ghostbusters

Bill Murray Supports an All-Female Ghostbusters Reboot

Despite the lack of activity over the years, I always felt confident that Ghostbusters 3 would eventually be made. However, with Harold Ramis' untimely departure earlier this year (and Bill Murray's continued disinterest in the sequel), those hopes have all but been dashed. With that said, there were rumors that Paul Feig (Freaks and GeeksBridesmaids) would take over the director's chair from Ivan Reitman. While nothing official has been announced, more information came out that if Feig did take on Ghostbusters 3, he would introduce an all-female cast of Ghostbusters that would function more like a reboot and not a sequel.

This past weekend during Toronto International Film Festival's special "Bill Murray Day," the actor himself spoke out about the all-female Ghostbusters rumors, offering his own opinion and even cast suggestions:

It sounds great to me. It sounds as good an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor! No, it’s a grand idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it!  I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters? [...] Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.

McCarthy has been at the forefront of female-driven comedies as of late with The HeatTammy, Identity Thief having been released over the past year. Wiig's also been building her stock up alongside McCarthy with BridesmaidsSNL, and The Skeleton Twins only being a small sample of her filmography recently. Cardellini and Feig have a working history together as the former starred as Lindsay Weir on Freaks and Geeks and was most recently seen on New Girl. Stone, obviously, is part of the new rising talent of young actresses in Hollywood, starring in SuperbadZombieland, and the The Amazing Spider-Man films.

Who would you want cast into an all-female Ghostbusters film?
