[Through My Lens] Shooting with Phoenix
Photos by Bobby Reys
Last week, I shared some photos from a location I scouted out for a possible photo shoot, and this week I wanted to share the results of some recent shots I took with Phoenix. I knew when I first found the place that Phoenix would be the one I would want to shoot there because of her style and attitude that comes across so well in photos. The day was cold and rainy, but that did not stop us from venturing out to see what the both of us could create. The location really gave us a good backdrop to work with, along with Phoenix's choice of outfits that made for a fun shoot. You can check out some of the photos I took of Phoenix here. [Through My Lens] Scouting Locations
Photos by Bobby Reys
The weather in Chicago never cares what you have planned for the day, and many know that it can be 80 degrees one day and snow on the ground the next. That being said, I met up with a friend to go scouting for potential photo shoot locations even though the weather didn't cooperate with us. The day was cold and rainy, even though the previous days had been okay for Chicago standards. With no particular destination in mind, we found a spot that looked like we could use one day. The place was dark, full of grime, but was also colorful at the same time, and we were able to come away with some shots and ideas. Despite the sucky weather conditions, we were able to come away with some shots and some ideas. Here are some shots that I took that day.

[Through My Lens] Mexico
Photos by Bobby Reys
It's been about a week since I've been back from Mexico, and I've been going through all the photos I took from all the various spots I visited. It had been awhile since I shot and edited so many photos, but since I was in a new place everyday, I knew on the flight coming back to the States that I'd have some work ahead of me. There were really a lot of photos that I wanted to share, but in the end, I decided on the ones that captured a good portion of what I saw in Mexico. There are shots from cities like San Miguel, Guanajuato, and Morelia to shots that I took in little towns that are probably not even on a map. There was some more stuff I would have liked to capture, but that might have until next time. All in all, it was a good trip, even with all of the police checkpoints when traveling between places. The weather was good, and the food was even better... which I didn't even snap one photo of.

[RH Photos] Michelle by Bobby Reys

Recently, I've been taking a lot of landscape shots, and every so often, shooting some architecture that really captures my eye. While I love getting to shot outside in nature, I have always enjoyed shooting portraits, and it has been a couple months since I've done so. A few days ago I hit up Michelle to see if she wanted to shoot and see what we could come up with. With the weather in Chicago still being a little chilly, we decided that we would hit up the Lincoln Park Conservatory and take advantage of the great plant/flower life and use it as a back drop. It was fun getting back to shooting portraits, and I can't wait to continue to do more of them. These are some of the shots that we took that day, and you can see more of them on my blog here.

Empty Spaces: Gary, Indiana
Photography by Bobby Reys
A buddy of mine wanted to go out and shoot some photos, so we set out with no particular destination in mind. Next thing you know, we're in the birthplace of The Jackson 5, Gary to be exact. I tend to wander, especially when I have my camera in hand, and there were plenty of things to photograph. These are some of the images that were captured that day, and as I look at the photos, it's crazy to think that at one point in time people frequented these spots and even lived in them. Imagine if these walls could talk.

It had been raining for a few days and pretty much all day on the 16th. Once the rain died down, Bobby Reys and I grabbed our cameras and headed out. These are some of the photos I shot.

Venezuela's Most Dangerous Prison
When you translate Vista Hermosa to English, it means beautiful view. It's funny that the name was given to one of Venezuela's most dangerous prisons where the inmates control the inside and have created their own society. These prisoners took control using force where one man is controlling the mayhem: Wilmer Brizuela AKA Pran. The only thing that keeps these prisoners confined within the prison walls is the Venezuelan National Guard patrolling the outside walls. Many of the inmates have some of the same amenities people have on the outside, ranging from guns and drugs to even iPhones. Some have even started their own businesses while inside, such as catering to other inmates, their families, and their friends who come to party. However, even with all of these perks and privileges, this is by no means a paradise. Check out the full article by Jorge Benezra here. Photography by: Sebastian Liste [via Time]
