Chief Keef Drops Surprise EP Ottopsy

From his beef with Tekashi 6ix9ine to shots being fired at his hotel in New York, Chief Keef was all over the news last week. Apparently none of that was enough to phase Sosa, who released a surprise EP called Ottopsy at midnight last night. 2018 has been a busy year for Chief Keef, Ottopsy is his 5th release since March.

At only 5 songs long Ottopsy is a succinct project, but Keef shows his versatility with each track riding a different wave, from banger "Gang Gang" to the heavily autotuned "I Need More". Even though the news around Chief Keef has been filled with references to 6ix9ine the album doesn't address the beef between them. The EP only has one feature, coming from Chief Keef's cousin Tadoe on "Randomly".

Ottopsy is available on all streaming services.

My Chemical Romance

Tuesday was a good day. Chicago finally got above freezing for the first time in two months and a horde of music hit the Internet for our listening pleasure. Starting things off is Ty Money who linked with none other than Chief Keef for the hard work anthem, "No Hobby" while Jose Guapo and Young Scooter discuss all things green in "Cash Talk". Producer got in on it as well, as Los Angeles duo BC Kingdom stabilize the dance aesthetics with their latest track in "DWN4U/JEEPS" and Chicago button-pusher  A-Villa teamed up with Closed Session and the ever-talented Lili K for a rousing performance on "Smooth It Down" and Calez gave fans the first cut off his upcoming Ceito project with "Positive Energy". ShadowOnStars released a cover of Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" and both My Chemical Romance showed they still have it, dropping "Fake Your Death" to essentially announce the end of the band. Crystal Method also got a remix of their track "Over It" featuring Dia Frampton via the Bixel Boys. Check it all out below!

Top Chicago Rappers of 2013

Chicago hip-hop has enjoyed a certain popularity increase over the past couple of years. Where 2012 saw the rise of Chief Keef and "Drill", 2013 brought about a new flavor as listeners from across the country, initially hooked by the drill sound, began to explore the vibrantly eclectic different sides of the city and variety of sounds that make up what is the flourishing Chicago scene today. With seemingly everyone's eyes on the Midwest and so many talented artist rising from the area, we decided to compile a list of the top hip-hop artists from Chicago that had the biggest years in 2013. We based our decisions off of releases, co-signs, shows/tours and general influence throughout to put together who we thought had the best top to bottom 12 month cycles since this time last year. You may not agree with all of our decisions, so let us know in the comments. Without further ado, I give you the Chicago's hip-hop artists that elevated their game the most in 2013.

Lady Gaga Loves Chicago Hip Hop

Lady has certainly thrust herself back into the public spectrum lately in the wake of her latest album drop, Art Pop, released November 6. Between dry-humping R. Kelly live onstage on Saturday Night Live and announcing plans to perform from space in 2015, Gaga also found time to show up to last nights AMA Awards red carpet on horseback in a crystal bodysuit.

After gracefully leaving the horse with the valet, Gaga strutted the red carpet where she was asked what she has been listening to. The answer was a bit different than what many would probably have guessed. The Art Pop crooner pointed out the Chicago hip-hop scene as one she has taken note of and specifically singled out GBE superstar Chief Keef as someone she regularly listened to, saying she "has been listening to a lot of Chief Keef." Keef, who was absent from the award show while serving time in a rehab facility, was watching the show and tweeted after hearing Gaga's endrosement. "I love Lady Gaga For Sayin She Listens to a lot of me and What's so crazy I was jus Watchin Dis redcarpet shit Like damn dis Girl fine ??"

With both artists signed to Interscope, a collaboration may just be in the near future. As two of the more polarizing figures in their respective genres, a Chief Keef/Lady Gaga joint would be interesting to say the least. If anything, the endorsement is just yet another reflection of the resurgence that Chicago has seen musically over the past couple of years.

Chief Keef

Chief Keef in Jail . . . Again

Reporting on Chief Keef's legal troubles is like watching the movie Groundhog Day, the same thing happens every time. Keith Cozart will once again be residing at Cook County Jail on the city's Southwest side after appearing before a judge at a Skokie courthouse today stemming from a traffic charge. Keef tweeted from the courthouse, "In court Finna go to Jail Judge Wants to send me Back.”

The latest in the Chief Keef legal woes isn't even his most serious. There have been rumors of owed child support payments to his two baby mothers, as well as a slew of lawsuits pending from missed or blown off shows in the past year. A quick overview of Keef's run ins with the law in 2013:

  • Locked up in a juvenile detention center in the west suburbs of Chicago in January for conducting an interview with Pitchfork at a gun range, violating probation for an earlier gun conviction for pointing a gun at police.
  • Arrested disorderly conduct in May after security at the LeMeridien Atlanta Perimeter hotel “observed smoke and a smell of marijuana from a room,” according to Dunwoody, Ga., police.
  • Keef and his label,  Glory Boyz Entertainment, were ordered to pay more than $230,000 in August to a Washington D.C.-based concert promotion company for failing to appear at a London show in December 2012, according to court records.

Maybe 2014 will be better?

Lil Reese

[Video] Lil Reese: "Team"

GBE's own Lil Reese returns with a fresh video for "Team" off his latest release, Supa Savage, available now. Reese puts on for his squad in the appropriately-titled joint and backs it up with a video to match. Having steered clear of the law for awhile, Reese is starting to build steam again for himself as the year comes to a close. Check out the video below.

Chief Keef

Chief Keef Released from Jail

Keith Cozart is once again on his way out of prison, this time nine days early. The artist, better known as Chief Keef, spent just over a week at the Cook County Jail in Illinois for violating probation by failing a drug test. The 20 day sentence was reduced due to "good behavior," according to the Chicago Tribune. Keef, who recently released a new mixtape Almighty So, has had a tumultuous few years to say the least and could very well be headed for a dim-lit end soon if he doesn't figure things out and get his head about him.

Currently facing hundreds of thousands in court fees and lawsuits for failing to show up to scheduled shows, the money from the deal he signed late last year seems to be waning. For his part, Keef has been on his game, releasing two projects (Bang Pt. 2since the summer, although the lean may be taking its toll. His puddle-stomping in his latest video for "Love No Thotties" might be the clearest glimpse at the (for now) deep-pocketed, overgrown child that is Chief Keef. Here's to hoping Keef can get it all together and turn things around with his new found freedom.
