This is my favorite blog post I’ve ever written… Working with artists to create new music, new ideas, and new contributions to Hip Hop culture is something I’ve always wanted to do as a writer and a DJ. So, while the first Closed Session happened in June with Curren$y, this EP has really been years and years in the making…
Closed Sessions Vol. 1 is available for free download. The free EP includes 9 original songs as well as 5 interludes, liner notes containing the story behind each track as well as individual artwork for each song, and links to each Closed Sessions video giving fans a look at the recording process.
We’re all very happy and eager to share the full EP, that could not have been done without everyone at RubyHornet, Closed Sessions, SoundScape, as well as the readers, artists, managers, promoters, and others who helped make connections happen. Please download the EP, digest the liner notes, go back and watch the videos, and most importantly… enjoy!

While in town during the fall, Emilio Rojas took a trip to SoundScape Studios and participated in a Closed Session with Scheme and Astonish of Chicago’s Molemen Crew. The result is “Helluva Year”, a yet to be released Closed Sessions production. Scheme debuted the track with this snippet recorded live at Tini Martini in Chicago, IL. Check out the video below, which also includes some fun facts about the session. Look for the finished track soon on The Closed Sessions Vol. 1 EP. The track will also appear on the deluxe version of Scheme’s forthcoming Same Rebel, New Cause, which is presented by RubyHornet, 2Dopeboyz, and Soul Assassins.
In connection to the release of Emilio Rojas’ new mixtape, The Natural, we bring you his Freestyle In The Park. This was filmed at Soundscape Studios in Chicago.
So time has said that our economy is to take a turn and our hip hop will follow. The broker our NYC pockets seem to get, the hungrier the emcees seem to get as well. Having personally known this guy right when he came down from his home in Rochester, it’s nice to see that MTV has made room for him and the rest of the blog world as well. After recently attaining hood status on his Recession Proof mixtape, I just had to sit down and show the Chi city what Emilio was all about.
