Full Riot Fest lineup revealed

The Chicago music festival I'm most looking forward to has just finalized its artist lineup. Riot Fest announced earlier that The Pixies, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Suicidal Tendencies, Andrew WK, T.S.O.L., and more will be joining the already amazing lineup full of punk, indie, and hip hop acts. Unfortunately, it was also announced that Bad Brains, Motorhead, and Attack Attack! had to cancel their performances. Regardless, Riot Fest is still shaping up to be the definitive Chicago music festival of the year.

Both daily lineups and tickets will go live on July 24th, so if you're curious who's playing when or can't put the money down for a 3-day pass, keep your eyes peeled here next week for more information. The full lineup poster can be seen below.

Pitchfork Music Festival

Top Picks At Pitchfork 2013

Pitchfork Festoval 2013

Since 2006, Pitchfork Music Festival has been recognized as one Chicago's must-see summer music festivals, and there are several, so that's really saying something. But with more than 40 break-through artists performing in just three days, Pitchfork is proving to be the Midwest spotlight for emerging talent.

This year, with headliners such as R. Kelly, Bjork, and Belle and Sebastian, the festival is sure to wrack up huge numbers of attendees, but that goes without saying. Who I'm here to tell you about is who you probably don't know about already -- but totally should. My top picks for Pitchfork aren't household names just yet, but they are definitely cutting-edge acts that you don't want to miss.

Austin's full Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup is full of fun fun fun

After not one, but two Fun Fun Fun Fest leaks, the full lineup for Fun Fun Fun Fest 8 has been officially revealed. Something must be in the air for 2013 festivals, because all in addition to Chicago's Riot Fest, FFFF8 features a number of bands that were (and continue to be) near and dear to my heart back when I was a teenager discovering life. Some of my personal highlights for the 8th Fun Fun Fun Festival include Blake Schwarzenbach (Jawbreaker), Melt-Banana, The Impossibles, Daniel Johnston, and Action Bronson. Hell, I'd fly down to Austin just for Black Schwarzenbach alone, but with the additions of Melt-Banana and a reunited The Impossibles?! Wow.

You can check out the full lineup below, which includes other notable acts as M.I.A., Ice-T, Kurt Vile & the Violators, Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg, Dessa, Descendants, The Locust, and so, so many more. Tickets are available on the Fun Fun Fun Fest website.

[RH Photos] Spring Awakening Day 2

Day 2 of this year's Spring Awakening showcased a lot of local love as noted Chicago groups and DJs PHNM, Team Bayside High, and Flosstradamus were joined by other big EDM acts like Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, Paul Oakenfold, Wolfgang Gartner, and others took to the four stages and got the EDM crowds sweaty. One thing I realized over the weekend is the very distinct anticipation in the air as everybody waited for the beat to drop. Once it happens, a sea of hands would erupt. The looks on everybody's face during that pause, the level of energy people keep up while they gyrate, fist bump, juke, twerk, and what have you is something to behold. It's not like anything I've seen during my years spent in mostly punk rock and hip hop shows. Kids these days and their bass-heavy music, right guys?

[Video] Jambalaya Fest Recap

[iframe id="http://player.vimeo.com/video/68589026?portrait=0"]

Last month's three-day Jambalaya Fest in Texas featured an amazing lineup of Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, RL Grime, Zeds Dead, Big Boi, and G-Eazy. The promoters for the event, Score More, recently released a small video recap of the shows. The festival sounded amazing for Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt alone, but with big names like Big Boi and RL Grime attached, the shows must have been extremely memorable for everybody that attended. Hopefully the "traveling festival" will come to Chicago soon.

Spring Awakening was this past weekend. and what an experience it was. Taking place this year at the legendary Soldier Field, Spring Awakening attracted the legions of EDM fans from all across the country to deliver a weekend full of sweat, bright lights, and dancing. Day 1 featured a litany of DJs, including Robbie Rivera, PANTyRAID, Dirty South, R3hab, Milk n Cookies, Nero, and Friday headliner Moby.
