Seriously, is Black Thought the G.O.A.T.

Black Thought and Method Man appeared together on Sway In The Morning in promotion of their new HBO show, "The Deuce". I don't even want to describe it in great detail, because it is truly some shit you need to see for yourself. The thing I do want to talk about is Black Thought, one of the best emcees (and performers) ever!

This man never even wastes a bar. You'd be hard pressed to present more than 10 bad Black Thoughts lines. Black does two exquisite rounds in this Cypher, and not to diminish Method Man at all, but it's truly an incredible thing to see.

Outside of the content - how dope is it to see Method Man and Black Thought cypher together on a radio show in 2017? The back and forth alone is classic material and I sincerely hope someone has a grainy home recording of the audio - a true bootleg gem...

...you know,  if bootleging was still a thing, and you had to record the radio with a tape deck and couldn't just enter this url into one of those youtube ripping sites and then just like have the audio to do whatever you want with it...

[Video] The Save Money Christmas Cypher + New Songs

Few collectives in music had a bigger rise in overall reputation than Chicago's Save Money team. In honor of a 2013 that saw projects from Vic and Chance, as well as Brian Fresco's Mafioso, a Save Money compilation and a steady slew of singles that increasingly unique. In honor of all this and Christmas, some of the team got together for a special cypher video just for the holidays. Joey Purp starts things off before handing off to Kami De Chukwu, Tokyo Shawn and Vic Mensa, who caps off the short video, shot by the girls of Verluxe.

In other Save Money news, we also got new tracks from both Vic Mensa and Dally Auston that can be heard below. Vic's "Crazy" is a lost cut from his 2010 Straight Up EP and was released around Christmas as a loosie single, as is Auston's "Great Gatsby".

[Video] Eminem & Slaughterhouse on The Backroom

Eminem dropped his latest album this week, The Marshall Mathers EP 2, a follow-up to his seminal, larger than life, 2000 album that firmly cemented the Detroit MC in the upper echelon of hip-hop and popular culture. As part of the whirlwind media attention the project has been receiving, BET invited Shady and his crew, Slaughterhouse, to the 106th & Park Backroom to spit a few freestyles and talk to Em about Kendrick Lamar. When it comes to off the cuff hip-hop today, you can't do much better than this bunch. Check out what they cooked up for the folks over at BET and what Eminem thinks of K Dot in the videos below and pick up that Marshall Mathers EP 2 via iTunes.

[Video] Childish Gambino: "Pound Cake Freestyle"

Merely hours before releasing his newest single "Worldstar", Childish Gambino's "Pound Cake" freestyle surfaced on the internet through the popular Sway In The Morning show. The multi-talented artist had stopped by the Shade 45 offices earlier this week and held it down while rapping over Drake's collaborative track with Jay-Z. CG gave a very personal and thoughtful verse on money, fame and depression while providing his unique flow on the popular instrumental. Check it out below.

[Video] Trinidad James can't freestyle

Man, Trinidad messed up. The "All Gold Everything" artist decided to step into Tim Westwood's office and spit some bars. . . only he forgot the bars. In what is perhaps the most embarrassing attempt at rhyming since Kobe Bryant made a rap album, Trinidad James made a damn fool of himself. Having lost his flow a few seconds in, Trinidad simply strolls around the set, frantically looking for something, anything that might suffice. One of the gems "Records on the wall. . .we got Biggie over here, Notorious B.I.G. RIP I fuck with you." The whole 3:53 video is below, see if you can stick it out.

[Video] Jon Connor Freestyle

[vimeo id="35386627"]

Jon Connor was in Chicago last week, performing for the first time ever in the Windy City. Prior to his show at Reggie's, the 2012 XXL Freshmen candidate stopped by SoundScape for a quick interview and this exclusive freestyle over soulful production from Thelonious Martin.  Connor is a beast, with a work ethic to match. I hope that he snags a spot on this cover. It would be a big win for Hip Hop, for pure skills, and for Flint.  Watch the video below and download the record here.  Shouts to Connor, Norva Denton and Young Savv for making this happen.

YP was recording at SoundScape and I'm told the inspiration just hit him.  This showed up in my inbox without prompting, and hey, I'm not mad at it at all.  If you can't get a Freestyle In The Park, you take one.  Props to YP.  Check out his RH Freestyle below.
