Save Money

[Video] SAVEMONEY: "Still Alive"(Feat.) Joey Purp & Kami de Chukwu

SaveMoney is very much still alive as members Kami De Chukwu & Joey Purp go bar-for-bar across the heavy-handed beat produced by Thelonious Martin and Stix to prove just that. The video was originally slated for a 2013 release, around the time the song hit, which was canceled after the production was shut down due to a robbery during the the time of the shooting. With schedules hard to line up with members on tour and in the studio, the SaveMoney squad re-assembled at my house on Thanksgiving Day to shoot the video alongside a celebration that was sandwiched between a pair of Chance The Rapper's sold out Riviera shows. SaveMoney made the video to prove they're "Still Alive", which Vic Mensa took to a new level by tattooing it across his abdomen. Check out the full video below, alongside the trailer for the upcoming SaveMoney episode of the 8-part Noisey "Chiraq" documentary, due out soon.

[Video] The Save Money Christmas Cypher + New Songs

Few collectives in music had a bigger rise in overall reputation than Chicago's Save Money team. In honor of a 2013 that saw projects from Vic and Chance, as well as Brian Fresco's Mafioso, a Save Money compilation and a steady slew of singles that increasingly unique. In honor of all this and Christmas, some of the team got together for a special cypher video just for the holidays. Joey Purp starts things off before handing off to Kami De Chukwu, Tokyo Shawn and Vic Mensa, who caps off the short video, shot by the girls of Verluxe.

In other Save Money news, we also got new tracks from both Vic Mensa and Dally Auston that can be heard below. Vic's "Crazy" is a lost cut from his 2010 Straight Up EP and was released around Christmas as a loosie single, as is Auston's "Great Gatsby".

Kami de Chukwu: "Droptop Vision"

Chicago native Kami De Chukwu released his latest single, "Droptop Vision" alongside fellow Save Money MC Joey Purp yesterday as we waded through a site change. Forgive our tardiness and be sure to give Kami's latest a look here below.

Joey Purp: "Monologue"

Save Money artist Joey Purp is back with his latest, "Monologue", released yesterday and produced by current Chicagoan Thelonious Martin. The track is a bit of a preview of his upcoming Leather Corduroys collaboration project with fellow Save Money member Kami De Chukwu. Check out the song here below.

Leather Corduroys to Perform in Chicago

It's coming. The chill in the air is just hitting the Midwest, a sign of what winter has in store. Luckily, Chicago has something this year to keep it warm: Leather Curduoroys. No, it's not a new fashion item from Kanye, but the name of two of Save Money's finest, Kami de Chukwu and Joey Purp. Why Leather Corduroys? Because what's hotter than that. "Think of the first thing you thought of when you heard the name 'Leather Corduroys," asked Chukwu at an interview in Pilsen the other day. "The temperature of your legs. It's an unimaginable concept, you can't have leather corduroys, it's like having seersucker suede," responded Joey.  The duo brings the heat to Blue 1647 in Pilsen this weekend as part of a new event series in the Windy City named The Antidote. The event will feature a bazaar-type of atmosphere, with independent vendors from the music, art and tech fields set up. Both the space, Blue 1647, and the event are exactly what the city needs to incubate artistic talent and grow the community through something similar to the Brookyln Bazaar. Joining Leather Corduroys performing on Saturday are The GTW and The Holy Kit with DJ sets from Stay Gold (Sir Devin Hudson Beng Feng) and DJ 20 Minutes. It's getting chilly, why not warm yourself up with some ruffled leather? Take a listen to Leather Cord's song "Prophet" and click here for tickets.

Black Matt: "Don't Blow My High" (feat. Kami de Chukwu)

While we've heard from Kami de Chukwu recently, he's come back for more, this time with my LOD brother Black Matt at the wheel. The two collaborated together for this new new, "Don't Blow My High." Matt comes out of the gates with high energy in his rapid-fire delivery while Kami slows the tempo for a moment; trust me, it's only for a moment.

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing some more Black Matt music, man. We're LOD, spread some good stuff my way!

Leather Corduroys (Kami de Chukwu & Joey Purps): "Prophet" (feat. The Mind)

SaveMoney's Kami de Chukwu & Joey Purps have formed a new duo called Leather Corduroys and wack rappers better be afraid, because these two are not holding back and attacking the mic with vicious rhymes. They have already proven just how reckless they can get when they rap on the same track in “Illuminati Slumber Party”, but now they're back with "Prophet" which holds a more laid-back vibe courtesy of THEMpeople. Kami De Chukwu: "Anna Nicole Smith"

Today, Kami is back with some new material, but on this track he seems to tackle on a new beat selection, which serves well for the rising Savemoney general. Per usual on "Anna Nicole Smith" the versatility Kami possesses is displayed on the Flying Lotus production. Throughout the track, and will be a nice addition to his upcoming project Smoke, coming soon. I also heard that Kami also entered the world of porn for these visuals... we'll see. Stream below.
