Ethan Hawke says Richard Linklater's film, Boyhood, will be released in 2014

Films are our fantasies made real in front of the camera... good films do this, at least. Documentaries, meanwhile, showcase our realities in condensed, fantasized styles. What happens, then, when a film incorporates documentary-style narratives that forego the typical "movie magic"?

Richard Linklater's Boyhood has been a pet project of his for the past decade. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, the film focuses on a young boy's (Ellar Salmon) life as he grows up from childhood into adulthood. To do so, Linklater has various scenes every year since 2002 to build his film together. Done away are CGI or makeup effects; every wrinkle, blemish, growth spurt, etc. are natural developments the actors acquired over the course of the film's production.

Hawke confirmed that the film will probably be done in time for next year's big film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Sundance), so those of us who have been tracking Boyhood's progress can finally see what the end product will look like. Hopefully, the film's narrative will be just as engrossing as its unique production and focus.

[Trailer] Grand Theft Auto V

The final, final, final official trailer for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has been released. The trailer gives extra exposition on the film's narrative, which will follow the three primary protagonists as they build up their notoriety in Rockstar's pastiche of Los Angeles, San Andreas. With the size of GTA V's map reportedly larger than GTA IV's, San Andreas', and Red Dead Redemption's maps combined, the mayhem and destruction will be increased exponentially.

Grand Theft Auto V will be in stores in the middle of September. For those wondering about the full song listing following yesterday's news that Flying Lotus will DJ and curate his own show, we're waiting on the full track list before we post. However, from what I've heard, there's gonna be a radio station for everybody, even pop music fanatics. Stay tuned.

James Spader cast as Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

While all of the details and casting come together for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel has found their villain for 2015's sequel to The AvengersThe Office star James Spader has been cast as the titular robot Ultron. While most may remember Spader as Robert California from the aforementioned TV series, he's won Emmys for his roles in The Practice and Boston Legal and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for an Outstanding Group Performance in last year's Lincoln.

Spader will be providing the voice for one of the biggest antagonists to the group of superheroes. In the comic book universe, Ultron was created by Ant-Man Henry Pym as an artificial intelligence that would be able to adapt to any form of threat. However, the technology behind him backfires on Pym as Ultron begins to view the human race as a threat, thus establishing the decades-long conflict between him and The Avengers.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters in May 2015.

[Video] Nintendo announces 2DS, a portable alternative to the 3DS

Earlier today, Nintendo announced the Nintendo 2DS, an alternative to the current 3DS. For $129, consumers can purchase what is essentially an un-foldable 3DS with all of the same tech specs minus the 3D component. Considering that the 2DS is a "handheld," its bulky size kind of doesn't help the portability factor of the system. However, Nintendo's known for milking the cash cow, and with the 3DS being the best-selling handheld on the market right now, it makes sense for them to offer an alternative to the 3DS, especially if the "3D gimmick" has been seen as nothing more than an optional component.

The Nintendo 2DS will be in stores this October across North America.

[Photography] Estevan Oriol Sues H & M & Brandy Melville

Photographer and director Estevan Oriol has stated that he is suing H&M and chain store Brandy Melville for allegedly using his copyrighted 1995 image "L.A. Fingers" and selling it as tank tops for women. Oriol's image has become iconic, and according to him, "If you put my photograph side-by-side with their re-creation of my image, anyone would tell you they are one in the same... they clearly copied my image."

As of right now, nothing is known as to what Estevan is asking for in compensation, and there also has been no official word from either H & M or Brandy Melville. As you can see from the photo below, the images are very similar, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of the whole situation.

Mitch Hurwitz wants to do an Arrested Development film before a new season

I'm going to be blunt for a moment: The Netflix-exclusive fourth season of Arrested Development wasn't that great. While a part of the reason could be because of the elongated time span between it and its third season, the main cause was Mitch Hurwitz' experimental approach to the season. By shooting various characters' perspectives over the course of a few days, the format didn't allow much space to allow true character growth to happen. However, despite its failures, the show still found an audience, both pre-existing fans and newcomers to the show. So much so, in fact, that Netflix is open to renewing the show for another season.

Old-time Arrested Development fans, however, know that Hurwitz has been discussing a film based on the Bluth family for the past decade. While the jump in media would bring further changes, fans have been very receptive of the idea. Simply put, the more Arrested Development, the better. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hurwitz re-confirms his plans for an AD film, stating:

"I'm working on the movie right now. I can't get into much more detail because I don't want to scare anybody off. I don't want to be presumptuous about it. I don't own the property outright it's a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie."

If an AD film is actually greenlit, it'll precede any potential fifth season. With the way season four ended, anything extra coming from Hurwitz and the cast would be well-received.

Todd McFarlane wants the Spawn reboot to be a horror/thriller

A month ago, we wrote about Jamie Foxx' interest in playing Spawn in a proposed reboot of the mid-90s comic book adaptation. It's been reported this week that Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is indeed going forward with a reboot for one of Image Comics' most popular characters. However, instead of approaching the project as a "superhero" film, McFarlane wants to create it as more of a horror/thriller.

McFarlane states: "I think it's a quick shoot. It's not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects, it's going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one. I've got so many people phoning now that I've got to get it done. I've made some promises to people this year."

Considering the film could release in 2015, one of the biggest film years for geek films (Star WarsBatman vs. SupermanThe Avengers: Age of Ultron), Spawn's appeal would definitely cater to larger audiences if it's indeed created as a horror/thriller. It would better serve the comics' tone, as well as allowing everybody working on the project some extra creative opportunities they wouldn't otherwise be able to explore if it were tonally set as a straight superhero film.

We'll see how everything progresses over the next few months, including whether or not Foxx will indeed play the lead role.
