[RH Interview] White Mystery

White Mystery

One of the many awesome moments of Riot Fest this year was when I got the chance to chat with heavy rocker siblings Miss Alex White, and Francis Scott Key White of White Mystery. This rad, in-your-face two-piece out of Chicago headlined the rebel stage on Sunday night. Check out the interview below and read about their love for Chicago, their latest album, Telepathic and the perks to being in a band with your red-headed sibling.

[Video] Savages: "Husbands"

Savages released their latest visual, this one in support of the band's track "Husbands" of their 2013 release Silence Yourself. The video, directed by John Minton, is off-beat with grainy images and quick cuts of close-up shots. Check out the video here below and

[Video] Vivelo Hoy: "Riot Fest 2013 - The Art of A Mosh Pit "

Today we bring you the intricacies of the art of moshing from none other than Hoy's Roger Morales. Shot this weekend at Riot Fest in Chicago's Humboldt Park, Roger risked life and lens as he waded into the craziness that takes over the park on the city's west side each year. Included are do's and don'ts (no back kicks or punches) and the spirit of moshing. Check out the video below and keep it posted to RubyHornet for more Riot Fest coverage all week.

Barber Greene Releases "Guayana" and "Dream Freak" via Public House Records

Named after a back road in Illinois farm country, Barber Greene hails from the golden corn fields of Dekalb, a simple town many local musicians have had the pleasure of calling home during college, or passing through while on tour. Though lead singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Matt Evert now hangs his hat in fast-paced Chicago, the calming, lyrical melodies he creates paint a dream-like picture  that lingers in the air like lightning bugs on a summer night. Barber Greene's delightful vocal harmonies, sincere lyrics, and unique song structure puts listeners into a Grizzly Bear-ish haze. Barber Greene's first 7-inch"Lion Living," debuted on May 29th via Yes Club Records and Evert is in the middle of  his first full length album, due out later this fall. He recently released two awesome new tracks  "Guayana" and "Dream Freak" via Public House Records, which you check out below, along with the music video for the title track off "Lion Living."

Desaparecidos 2013 Fall U.S. Tour

Desaparecidos fans have been aching for more since the group's first full-length, politically charged album "Read Music/Speak Spanish" appeared on the scene in 2002. Good news came for fans last year when the group -- a pet project of Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst -- got back together and released three 7 inches, most recently with "Te Amo Camila Vallejo," and "The Underground Man." The new tracks stay true to the bands' cut throat anti-consumerism/anti-government views, dismissing social expectations and delivering a raw, hardcore, against-the-grain punk hard rock sound.  I can't even count the number of times I have wished and hoped for the band to get back together and play a show in Chicago, though I kept myself thoroughly satisfied with frontman (and lyrical genius) Conor Oberst's work with Bright Eyes and Monsters of Folk. And now the dream has become a reality. Desaparecidos is back, and their fall U.S. tour will hit up the metro in Chicago on Oct. 25th, bringing along supporting act The So So Glos. Give Desaparecidos' newest tracks a listen and check out their tour dates below.

[Album] Ghost Wave: "Ages"

for the New Zealand band. The album was recorded in the band's hometown of Auckland, New Zealand and harks back to an earlier day of more jam-infused rock music. Last week we posted the video for "Country Rider" one of the lead singles off of "Ages" check it out below as well as the full album, which is available for digital download here.

Black Moth Streams New Single

A band of heavy noise rockers from across the pond, Black Moth is coming at you with their new single "The Articulate Dead" off of their much anticipated latest album "The Killing Jar."  The UK has been busy destroying festival stages throughout the UK and Europe with their aggressive punk for the past few years. But Black Moth isn't just noise and madness. Their razor-blade sharp guitar riffs, shout choruses, and lead singer Harriet Bevan's seductive vocals grab you and hold your attention with clenched fists.

A metal/rock/punk mashup -- think Black Sabbath meets Pretty Girls Make Graves meets Queens of The Stone Age -- Black Moth has evolved into an explosive sound of their own with "The Killing Jar," while staying true to their influences. "The Killing Jar" will be available in North America on CD, download, and limited edition vinyl on October 1st via New Heavy Sounds.
