The Boy Illinois Gets Fierce on New Mixtape, Windy

The Boy Illinois has been working, that's the most blunt way to say it. Over the years, he has continued to climb and build a career in music that has seen him tour with Lupe Fiasco, and release heralded projects that stretch beyond the Chicago Hip Hop scene into the national music consciousness.

While he's going global, he reminds everyone where he's from on his new mixtape, Windy. The new "mixtape" is 9 tracks deep and features fellow Chicagoans Saba, Frsh Waters, Chai Tulani, and YP - who delivers a stand out feature on the similarly Chicago-centric track "90'94".

Themes of identity, pride, community building, and protection against f*ck $hit peppered the EP, making it fierce and determined throughout. Listen to the mixtape below.

Listen: The Boy Illinois x Ben One - "Number 1"

If you haven't noticed. The Boy Illinois is out here working! He's got another joint for y'all to rock to. This time around, he recruited the vocals of fellow Chicago artist, Ben One to create a track called "Number 1". It has production from Xcel, who has notable production credits with legend and Trill O.G Bun B and one of Chicago's best emcee's ever, Shawna.

"Number 1" is all about where Illi and Ben One are on their way to. The message is simple to digest. Make it to the top and you'll be number 1. Hence, the title of the song. With that said, you still a little time to hop on that Illi bandwagon. My suggestion is before it takes off at lightning speed.

Get your ears around this joint. And If you like it. You know how to show your support and the results that come with that.

We've been having a string of warm days this fall and winter that no one is truly mad at. Since it's still technically cuffing season and the temp can drop with seemingly no warning, you are definitely still going to want a cuddle buddy and you may need that new The Boy Illinois for your theme music.

The Boy Illinois' got a "Herlude" and it's called "Yer Yer". It's an ode to cuffing season and something the ladies and fellas can rock to.

Get your DM game together to this one! You've still got plenty of time to close the deal for this winter/cuffing season. Respect to Illi for keeping his bars intact no matter the subject.

Boy Illinois

The Boy Illinois releases "Memories" from upcoming project Home Court Advantage

The Boy Illinois might be on tour with Lupe right now, but that's not stopping his creative process! He just dropped off a new joint called "Memories" and it's of the same quality you now expect from The Boy Illinois.

Memories is laying the groundwork for Illinois forthcoming release "Home Court Advantage". Bringing a classic lyrical fun feeling that has been lost in hip hop. Illi creates a story, placing the listener in a setting where you can visualize everything he spits, from riding the "L" (CTA Train), to not making money yet creating opportunities. A short song with a plethora of lessons and life combined, Memories takes you back to dope punch lines like "Hit a lick like I never had a PayPal." With a catchy hook & mid tempo flow, The Boy Illinois effortlessly states his claim of being righteous but all about success, money, being the best and coming up with his team from day one.

[Mixtape] The Boy Illinois: "Jean Baptiste"

The Boy Illinois did a little promo-run not too long in which he visited the offices of MTV, XXL and others to preview his now released 'tape Jean Baptiste. The reaction from that tastemakers that got the chance to hear the 'tape a little early have come out with great feedback and after listening to the project you'll be able to see why they talk so highly of Jean Baptiste. Illi has always been an ambitious dude that knows in what direction he wants to take his sound and the 'tape is a major success in both conception and execution. Peep below.

Rapper Onis

[Video] The Boy Illinois: "Merci, Merci"

The Boy Illinois' "Merci, Merci" is one of my favorite cuts from his latest project The Memoirs Of Gilbert Gaston. Illi unveiled the fresh new video for the track today and it certainly matches the quality of the record with some great shots and very good editing. I feel people don't catch all the gems the emcee spits in this track and highly recommend you check-out the breakdown here.
