If you haven't watched this teaser trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal yet, stop what you're doing and hit play; make sure you have the volume on extremely high or have headphones on for this.

The Raid: Redemption practically came out of nowhere last year. Written and directed by Gareth Evans, the Indonesian film starred Iko Uwais as an elite police squad officer raiding an apartment building in the Jakarta slums to take down the crime lord, Tama Riyadi. However, unbeknownst to the squad is the fact that the assignment wasn't officially sanctioned by the police; rather, it was taken up by the police chief as a personal vendetta against Riyadi. Uwais' character, Rama, also has a personal stake in the assignment as it's rumored that his older brother has taken up residence in the apartment complex as one of Riyadi's right-hand men. However, what made The Raid: Redemption so amazing were the film's action scenes, showcasing the Indonesian martial art, pencak silat. The brutal counters and close quarters combat made the fight sequences some of the best I've seen in years.

The Raid 2: Berandal picks up where the first film left off, both stylistically and narratively. This first trailer features Rama unleashing a bevy of punches on a chalk outline in his jail cell wall. The rhythmic punches set the stage for some more of the film's scenes. Evans has shared that the same aesthetic would be continued in The Raid 2: Berandal, just expanded upon in a thriving outdoor setting and not so enclosed in one finite location.

Watch the trailer and wait patiently for The Raid 2: Berandal's theatrical release sometime next year.
