Earlier this week we posted several interviews Sway did with local artists as part of "Chicago Week" on his web series "Sway's Underground". Yesterday an interview with Mr. SoulTrap himself, Tree, was released. While sitting in the New Era store on south State Street Tree discussed the state of the Chicago scene, the Soul-Trap movement and offers a few bars off the cuff as well, check out more below.

[RH Interview] Soul Trapping with MC Tree G at Pitchfork 2013

Chicago's genre-bending MC Tree loves to make predictions. Last year, while attending Pitchfork as a guest, he told everyone who would listen that a year from then he would be on one of the four stages in Union Park. On July 21st, he proved that estimate true as he played the opening 1pm set on Sunday. It was an appropriate setting for the Soul Trap creator.

As he dabbled between the duo of Sunday School mixtapes released over the past year and a half, church bells rang out from service at First Baptist Congregational Church just west of the festival. By all accounts, it was a solid fest debut for Tree, who was joined onstage by a drummer and vocalists Lili K and BenOffishal. Tree's prediction this year? Read it in the Q+A below and hear the lofty goals the producer/MC has for the rest of this year and 2014.

[Video] MC Tree G Live @ Pitchfork Music Fest

MC Tree G's path to rocking the stage at Pitchfork Fest this past weekend was paved by his life experiences, two superb Sunday School tapes and his Soul Trap production that took people off-guard by its raw and street-oriented yet soulful sound. Tree definitely seemed to grasp the moment and enjoyed the fruition of his work as he performed at Union Park with a smile on his face and a positive energy that transmitted onto those who were lucky enough to catch his set. Unfortunately, I wasn't part of that group of people and will have to settle with these two new videos Pitchfork uploaded of Tree performing "The King" & "Devotion", which are able to capture some of the aura surrounding the set, although it probably isn't anything compared to the real thing. Luckily for those who are in the same predicament as me, Tree has a show in The Shrine on August 3rd and it's free if RSVP here!

Pitchfork Music Festival Recap 2013

As hot as it was this weekend, (thank the sweet lord for the breeze), the heat didn't stop all the cool kids from coming out to see their favorites at this year's Pitchfork music festival. Union Park was crowded with fans, as it was with tons of local food and art vendors. The full photo set from Pitchfork Music Festival 2013 will be coming up soon, as well as a special R. Kelly-exclusive post where we share our thoughts on his performance.

[Video] Tree: "Busters"

Tree's Sunday School 2 impacted earlier this year, but he's not leaving the spotlight anytime soon as he releases today a brand new video for "Busters" --a fan favorite--alongside Creative Cntrl and will also perform at this year's Pitchfork Festival.

Giftz: "Nino" (feat. Tree & SaveMoney)

Giftz' local hit-record "Nino" was a monstrous collaboration with Tree that became an instant favorite among many listeners, so the remix had a difficult mission to fulfill as it tried to match the quality of the OG. Nevertheless, Giftz called in the best crew in Chicago right, SaveMoney, and they came through with that heat you would expect them to deliver. Joey Purp, Kami de Chukwu, Dally Auston, Brian Fresco & Caleb James all spit a verse and kill it with their own style.

TwoLetterz: "Chi-Town Shit" (feat. Tree) (prod. by Roman Flowrs)

TwoLetterz dropped this new heat entitled "Chi-Town Shit" in our submission inbox and it was too good to not put it up. Besides a stellar verse from TwoLetterz, we also get Tree spitting a surprise guest-verse and production by Roman Flowrs to show you what that "Chi-Town Shit" is all about.

[Mixtape] Tree: "Sunday School II"

A lot of anticipation has been growing for Tree's next mixtape. Since Sunday School came out last year, the Chicago MC has been upping his game and visibility, including being featured as a Red Bull Sound Select artist. With Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out, Tree has escalated to the next level, complete with backing from Closed Sessions and Creative Control. Features include Lili K, Teddie Caine, Ari Lourdes,Danny Brown, Project Mayhem, and Roc Marciano with production by Tye Hill, Bink!, Frank Dukes, Illinois Jones, Bobby Johnson, Khari Lemuel, S.C., and Tree himself, Sunday School II is bound to be one of this year's best releases out of Chicago. Prepare your ears for some SoulTrap.
