RH Review: The Lollapalooza Experience (2018)

After a long four-day weekend of countless live acts, underground after parties, and spending over a hundred dollars in Uber’s; it feels great to be in the AC recapping the Lollapalooza experience.

Arriving early on Thursday to see Valee was the perfect way to start off the festival. The energy during “Two 16’s” was insane. One person, who looked about 17, was screaming every lyric directly in my ear. If I wasn’t sure about the lyrics, I certainly am now. Also the photo below is legendary.

After helping tear down the temporary studio set up hosted by Closed Sessions at SoHo House, I found my way to the front of the Bud Light stage to see Travis Scott. With his new album Astroworld dropping an hour after his performance, the crowd was ridiculous. I had a difficult time recording any of the show due to the mosh pits.

Tyler The Creator and Post Malone were two notable acts on Friday. Post Malone receives a lot of hate in the hip-hop community, but his set was much better than expected. His voice sounded strong and it felt like the entire audience knew every word during his performance. I added a clip from Tyler The Creator’s set below to give an idea of the audience.

Saturday was the least exciting day for me. I missed Femdot from sleeping in too long. Other than LL Cool J, the other acts I saw were disappointing. Lil Pump found a way to be worse than my already low expectations. GoldLink sounded as if he didn’t have enough material for an entire hour. The energy of the festival was redeemed during Hippie Sabotage’s performance at their after party. The two brothers from Sacramento killed it.

The final day ended strong. Knox Fortune had the most intimate show of the weekend. Their crowd was also the most mature I saw all weekend, with the median age above 18 for the first time. Lil Uzi Vert is a rock star. To think about seeing him at the Metro just two years ago, to playing at the main stage at Lolla is crazy. The crowd loved him.

All in all, the weekend was a success. It’s almost hard to believe Lolla is over.

Tyler, The Creator Remixes The Prophet

Tyler, The Creator has been releasing a ton of loose singles recently. Today he added a remix to Prophet's "I Wanna Be Your Man" called "Peach Fuzz". Tyler kicks things off by singing the hook before getting into a verse where he shouts out Prophet and Stones Throw. "Peach Fuzz" is a quick one off song like the other singles he's released this summer. The original song came out in 1984 but was re-issued by Stones Throw Records this year. Listen below.

Chance The Rapper announces star studded festival

Chance The Rapper is hosting a star studded music festival for the Chicago stop of his “Magnificent Coloring World Tour”.

Reports from the Chicago Tribune suggest Chance The Rapper’s return to Chicago will be Sept. 25 at U.S. Cellular Field. It's the “first ever music festival at U.S. Cellular Field on Chicago’s South Side”.

The “Magnificent Coloring Day” festival will feature Chance The Rapper along with Skrillex, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Tyler the Creator, Lil Wayne and others. A countdown clock is currently counting down to purchase tickets later today.

Chance The Rapper’s relationship with U.S. Cellular Field and the Chicago White Sox is well known. The U.S Cellular Field has a 40,000 seating captivity. With selling out the Chicago Theater this past year, there’s no doubt Chance The Rapper and his guest will have no problem in selling out.

Furthermore, fellow Chicago rapper Common is hosting his returning Aahh Fest on the same weekend. His Aahh Fest is now a two-day festival. Last year he brought out Kanye West, Dave Chappelle, and Jennifer Hudson.

With both events going on that same weekend, fans will have the heavy burden in choosing which Chicago artist’s festival to attend.

Tickets for the “Magnificent Coloring Day” festival will be on sale on http://chanceraps.com/. Make sure you also check out Chance's latest latest album, Coloring Book

[RH First Glance] Tay Walker: "Karma"

Tay Walker is a keyboardist/vocalist for the breakthrough experimental electronic group The Internet, who made waves last year with their album, Feel Good, which found its way onto almost every year-end list there was for 2013. Not one to be impressed with that success, Walker is preparing to branch out into his own solo work and today dropped the video for his first single, "Karma," due out on his debut album, 25 Hours a Day which is expected sometime this Spring. The project is rumored to have features  from Mac Miller and Casey Veggies, and of course some production coming from The Internet compatriots, Syd The Kid and Harry Fraud. If "Karma" is any indication of what's ahead, Tay Walker may find himself on plenty of lists again this year. Check out the video, streaming below.

[Video] Tyler, The Creator on "The Arsenio Hall Show"

Arsenio Hall welcomed Tyler, The Creator to his show last night and sat down with the Odd Future de facto leader to talk on a wide array of subjects, including the YouTube Music Awards, his latest music video as a director, and relationships. Tyler was very candid throughout the interview and dropped a few inspirational gems that are definitely worth listening to.

[Album] MellowHigh: "MellowHigh"

Ever since OFWGKTA hit the scene a few years back when Tyler ate a tarantula in his over-exposed nightmare that was Bastard, Odd Future has been a staple of the modern hip-hop world. While Tyler and Earl provided the intensity and wow factor, it has always been Domo Genesis and Hodgy Beats who were recognized as the truest lyricists of the collective. Having released a couple projects as MellowHype, the pair finally teamed up with fellow OFWGKTA producer Left Brain for a full project that has been awhile in the making. True to their original name, the buzz around the album hasn't been crazy, save for a couple songs dropped on SoundCloud and the video for "Yu" which dropped earlier this month. With their latest, self-titled offering, Domo and Hodgy feel right at home over the Left Brain beats. Check out the full stream via Myspace here below along with dates for their current tour which hits Tucson, Arizona tomorrow.

[Video] Tyler, The Creator: "Tamale"

Tyler is back with the latest visual to come from his Wolf release earlier this year. "Tamale" is directed by Tyler's alter-ego Wolf Haley and has some definite Tim and Eric-esque vibes to it. What else can we really expect from the Odd Future leader at this point anyway? Check out "Tamale" below as soon as possible.
