[Video] Young Wolf X Von Vuai: "Blue Flamingo"
It’s been a few weeks since Young Wolf’s debut EP, Blue Flamingo, was released. Teaming up with star producer Von Vuai for the EP, Young Wolf shows his range throughout the project. Today, we’re happy to premiere the first video for the release, “Blue Flamingo.” Co-directed by Wolf and DJ Damnage, the video features Wolf and his crew partying in the woods for the first half of the song until the drug interlude hits where the video transitions into a rooftop party. The visual transition matches with Von’s musical progression from a party beat to a trippy, synthy beat as it goes from a most black and white, muted/desaturated visual to neon, oversaturated scenes. I won’t even lie – I’m probably going to be replaying this video all day, and don’t be surprised if all of you find yourselves replaying it, either.

[Video] Von Vuai: "RADIANT"
Two weeks after he dropped STANK, Chicago producer Von Vuai is back to deliver visuals for my personal favorite track, "RADIANT." The video consists of Von and friends partaking in some extracurricular activity with a soft saturation. A laidback and carefree environment is exactly what I had in mind when I first heard "RADIANT," and it's good to see that what I envisioned is mostly what Von and company pictured, as well. Enjoy this great video for the summer that doesn't fall into the trappings of being a "summer song."

[Mixtape] Von Vuai: "STANK"
As a 21st birthday present for the rest of us, Chicago producer released his collection of beats, STANK. Mostly known as the producer for St. Millie's debut, No Religion But Up, the Chvrch crew member has also produced for Rockie Fresh, D-Win, Phlyy B (who is featured on this drop), and has future collaborations with both ShowYouSuck and Netherfriends.
First hinted at during Sean CK's interview with Von Vuai back in February, STANK takes samples from a number of other songs and movie clips, resulting in a a spacey sound that isn't really the "typical" sound found in hip hop. Personally, this is the kind of sound I wish was more prevalent in the genre. "RADIANT" stands out exactly for this reason, but also because it's sampling a song that I've, at the time of this writing, spent the past hour trying to figure out where it's from. (It's Frank Ocean's "Pyramids," which is ironically the only song I've listened to outside of two specific bands this week. What are the odds?)
Rappers: I'm looking forward to what you can do over these STANK beats. Make me and Von proud.
St. Millie: "No Damn" (prod. by Von Vuai)
A month after St. Millie dropped "Get 'Em High" with Lili K, the Treated Crew member comes in full force with the Von Vuai-produced "No Damn." Millie ended 2012 on a high note as his debut mixtape No Religion But Up found critical acclaim and helped elevate the rapper's name to the next level. "No Damn" continues where he left off with No Religion But Up. If you've been sleeping on Millie up until this point, "No Damn" should wake you up to his talent.
[Interview] AEMMP Record Producer: Von Vuai
Von Vuai is a producer and drummer from the Westside of Chicago, and from the sounds of his production, his time is near. A member of the Chvrch crew, with fellow rising artist St. Millie, Von produced ½ of Millie’s debut effort No Religion But Up, an underground success that catapulted Millie into the lens of the Chicago music scene. With a beat tape titled Stank on the way, Von's airy, futuristic and melodic production will likely have the chance to make its way into the right person's ears.
A full-time student at Columbia College, Von is balancing homework and class schedules with all night sessions and finding the right creative space. He has had good teachers both in and out of the classroom, another up and comer under the guidance of The Gift. "Gift is my homie he has been a lot like a big brother and mentor to me. I’ve been able to learn a lot while working with him, more than he even knows." Von remarks about The Gift, who is an in-house producer for Rockie Fresh, and frequent collaborator with many in the Chicago Hip Hop scene.
From his background behind the drums, to his aspirations of diving into the fashion world, Von's creative peak as yet to be reached. It will be only up from here as Von continues to grow as an artist of many trades. We take a look at the ascent in the latest AEMMP Hip Hop producer spotlight.
