[Video] YC the Cynic: "Molotovs at Poseidon"

Last month, we shared the tripped-out "God Complex" video by New York MC YC the Cynic. Today, we're sharing his latest video, "Molotovs at Poseidon." Directed by AaronIsNotCool, the entire video was shot in one 3-minute long take, which is very impressive for any video format, music or otherwise. This might not appeal to those who don't really care much about film or music videos, but being able to shoot an entire video without cuts or edits is remarkable.

"Molotovs at Poseidon" follows YC's flows as a masked man pulls a gun on him before his entourage pull theirs on him, matching YC's delivery about always staying ahead of the game, as well as a carried-over theme from "God Complex" about being a god. My favorite lines go, "Your damage is none. You just threw a molotov at Poseidon/Then felt the flood in your iris and cried for an act of kindness." YC is a lyricist through and through, dropping similes backpackers and old school hip hop heads would dig, while also appealing to current hip hop homies with his smooth flow.

I'm telling you, there's something about the New York rapper that I can't get enough of. His debut album, GNK, is coming soon, and I honestly can't wait to hear through everything YC has to offer.

[Video] YC the Cynic: "God Complex"

YC the Cynic is an MC out of The Bronx, yet his style isn't really reminiscent of the East Coast. In fact, the first thing I noticed listening to the first single from his upcoming album, GNK, is the similarity of his vocal delivery to Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner," which is... not something I've ever heard in hip hop before. It's a common motif that repeats throughout the song, yet it doesn't overshadow his hooks and verses. It fits over the key-driven beat, which was produced by Frank Drake.

The video itself is a trippy, green-screen heavy video that relies heavily on a rotoscope-esque filter to make YC appear animated amidst brightly-colored clouds and geysers. He might go by YC the Cynic, but "God Complex" is an irony-filled song full of faux-bravado as he lyrically puffs his chest out with a crown on his head to complete the visual metaphor of the titular god complex.

Like a sudden smoke cloud, YC seemingly appeared out of nowhere, but if "God Complex" is a sign of things to come, I don't think he'll be dissipating anytime soon.
