Re-Up

Didn’t get a chance to check out the site yet this week? No worries, the Friday Re-Up is here to satisfy all your culture cravings.

Amongst the endless amounts of hot new interviews, fashion updates, and the latest music videos, we’ve come across some rather unfortunate news. Via video post on their website earlier this week, Beastie Boys’ member, Adam “MCA” Yaunch, shared with the public that he had recently been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his throat.  Due to this sad discovery, the group has officially announced that all upcoming tour dates will be canceled and the release of their new album, The Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1, will be pushed back to a later date. Included among the canceled appearances, the Beastie Boys will no longer be heading lining this years’ Lollapalooza and have been replaced with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Something seems kind of backwards to me about this switch up considered that the Beastie Boys, one of the most significant and influential hip hop and punk acts of all time, have been replaced with a group that doesn’t even come close to the same level of greatness. Lollapalooza will still be a whole lot of fun no doubt, but we’ll all definitely be missing the Beastie Boys. Hope you get better soon MCA! On a lighter note, Nike Sportswear’s newest store, AKIN has come to the Chi. The grand opening is going down tomorrow from 3-8 p.m. at 1313 S. Halsted St. on the IUC campus and will feature live entertainment, raffles, giveaways, and a few surprises.
