As a young adult in his mid-20s growing up in Chicago, I’ve heard a lot of talk about “revolutions.” Of course, all of these teenage dreams never came to fruition, and we all live in relatively the same world we did 10 years ago. However, one girl has taken up arms and truly started a revolution, all from her bedroom in a Chicago suburb.

#chicagoGirl: The Social Network Takes On A Dictator is about a young woman, Ala’a Basatne, who has spent the past two years coordinating the Syrian revolution exclusively through social media. The documentary illustrates just how powerful social media has become… as well as how dangerous it can be. Through cameras Basatne was able to provide to her friends overseas, they demonstrate just how devastating the war in Syria truly is in spite of President Bashar al-Assad’s attempts to hide it.
