Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass 2) is dipping back into the well of Mark Millar’s work, adapting the latter’s book The Secret Service for his next film. Retitled Kingsman: The Secret Service, the film stars Taron Egerton as a young rebel chosen to enter a secret agency’s training program akin to our secret service, but with a dash of British flavor. Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) serves as his mentor of sorts. In a way, Kingsman: The Secret Service is like a young James Bond film that highlights the early days not normally seen in other spy films… just with an added element of typical Matthew Vaughn style. Samuel L. Jackson also appears in the film.

While Kick-Ass was underwhelming, I love that Vaughn has been tapping Millar’s creator-owned books for film adaptations, showing that there’s more to comics than just superheroes. Granted, The Secret Service still has that heightened element of action/adventure, but I love seeing underrated/under the radar comics get some extra exposure. You can read the film’s synopsis below, as well as take a look at its first poster.

Kingsman: The Secret Service will be in theaters on October 24th.

Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class”), “Kingsman: The Secret Service” tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
