This is Where I Leave You is the next film for Shawn Levy following last year’s The Internship. The comedy is adapted from the 2009 novel of the same name by author Jonathan Tropper, who also wrote the screenplay. This is Where I Leave You follows an ensemble cast led by Jason Bateman (Bad Words), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Adam Driver (Star Wars Episode VII), and Corey Stoll (Midnight in Paris) as estranged siblings brought together following the death of their father, kept together by their widowed mother played by Jane Fonda (Klute). An ensemble film like this is usually buoyed by the cast, typically allowing their collective talents to craft the film rather than let the film dictate them. However, I think there’s enough seen in the trailer to balance both the talent and a stellar script.

This is Where I Leave You opens in theaters on September 12th. You can read the film’s official synopsis below.

When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide—driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.
