Scarlett Johansson is definitely no slouch. With appearances in two different films releasing into theaters this weekend (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Under the Skin), Johansson’s going to be fresh in people’s minds to jumpstart the month of April (as if she wasn’t already on our minds, right?). Whereas she plays a superhero/secret agent in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and an alien sexual predator in Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, her next role in Luc Besson’s (Nikita, Leon: The Professional) Lucy may very well trump the two aforementioned films completely.
This first trailer for Lucy introduces us the eponymous Lucy (Johansson), a young woman who is forced to deliver drugs that have been surgically inserted in her stomach. However, after her captives beat her, the drugs begin to leak into her system, granting her extrasensory powers that allow her to tap into her brain’s full potential. While it’s a bit similar to the Bradley Cooper-led Limitless, Lucy is more focused on the action/thriller aspect of a human essentially becoming superhuman.
Lucy will be in theaters August 8th.
