Writer/director Quentin Dupieux (Rubber, Wrong) is known for his absurdist films that blur the lines between reality and surreality. While I still haven’t had a chance to see Wrong, Rubber was a much needed breath of fresh air for films. In fact, Alex and I recorded a podcast analysis on the film during our younger years. Rubber is a post-modern absurdist film involving a killer tire that killed people with its telekinetic powers. Beyond that, the film aped on the interaction between films and audiences to the point where the audience becomes a part of the plot.
Wrong Cops, Dupieux’ next film is a bit of a departure from his crazy plots, but still retains some of the absurdism he’s known for. Reminiscent of cop parody films like Super Troopers and Reno 911!: Miami, Wrong Cops takes place in a world where almost all crime ceases to exist, marginalizing the role of the officers. To make up for this, the cops find their own ways to pass the time. The film has an ensemble cast featuring Steve Little (Eastbound & Down), Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and Marilyn Manson.
Wrong Cops will be on VOD and in limited theaters on December 20th.
