For the second week in a row, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire topped the weekend box office with another $74.5m showing. However, it received strong competition from Disney’s animated film Frozen‘s $66.7m. Following in third place is Thor: The Dark World with $11.1m. The Jason Statham and James Franco-starring Homefront opened to a solid $6.97m over the holiday weekend, placing it in 5th place. With Out of the Furnace the only wide release this week, Catching Fire should continue to reign over the box office. However, if word of mouth spreads over Frozen, I can see it overcoming the film this weekend.
