The Amazing Spider-Man 2 continued its surprising box office plunge, falling into third place this weekend with $16.8m, bringing its domestic total to a subpar $172m. Last weekend’s top film, my self-described comedy of the year, Neighbors, fell to second place with $25.9m. Topping the box office is Godzilla‘s return to the big screen with a huge $93m. Despite receiving a mixed reaction from critics (including a super harsh review from our very own Alex Katz), the strong showing guarantees more to come from Gareth Edwards and company. The weekend’s other big release, the Jon Hamm-led Million Dollar Arm, brought in $10.5m.
