The title says it as clear as day: Don’t watch Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy. Even though it was recently added to Netflix Instant this week, even though Spike Lee’s name still carries some type of status, even though Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy was an instant classic, none of this means you should waste your time watching the 2013 remake. Trust me. Hell, even with a horrid English dub (which is what Netflix Instant has right now), you’re better off watching that than the Hollywood remake.
If you’re looking for something new to watch, there’s the surprising World War Z film adaptation (which has little to do with the book it was based off of), the third season of Elijah Wood’s Wilfred, and the seventh season of Doctor Who for all of those weird Doctor Who fans out in the world. Anything is better than watching Spike Lee’s Oldboy. If none of these pique your fancy, you’re better off re-watching Orange is the New Black all over again, maybe revisiting Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or Bob’s Burgers instead of watching Spike Lee’s Oldboy.
