10 Photography Movies Every Photographer Should See
It's no secret that film making and photography go hand in hand. One photo can inspire the tone of a whole scene, while composition, framing and lighting play equal roles in both. As a photographer I find myself constantly acknowledging and commending a good frame when I see one, especially in cinematography. Increasingly often, I find myself constantly searching for films where photography plays a major role, or with and about a photographer as a lead role. While photography movies can captivate and inspire photographers specifically, I think they can also inspire anyone to capture a picturesque moment when they see one.
That being said, I compiled a list of 10 Photography Movies every photographer should see, but it's pretty much what I think everyone should see. And because I know there are plenty more out there, definitely feel free to share some of your own favorite photography films with us.

[Trailer 2] The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The second trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty adds more narrative context to the film than the original trailer did. The Ben Stiller-directed/starring film is about a common office worker (Stiller) who constantly loses himself in his daydreams. However, when his and his office crush's (Kristen Wiig) are in danger, he takes it upon himself to embark on an adventure even he could never have imagined.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has been generating a lot of Oscars buzz since its premiere this past weekend, and the new trailer sheds some light on why. The academy is full of suckers for coming-of-age, life-affirming, mid-life crisis dramas, and Walter Mitty certainly hits all of those points. The film will be released on Christmas Day.

[Trailer] The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a remake of the 1947 film of the same name inspired by a short story written by James Thurber. In the modern remake, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) is a LIFE proofreader whose imagination sometimes gets the best of him. In his daydreams, he is the hero of his own story, which is a direct contrast to the reality in which he's a bit of a pushover. However, when both his and his co-worker's (Kristen Wiig) jobs are threatened, he rises to the occasion to save their occupations.
What's intriguing about the trailer is how the reality scenes will work alongside the fantasy scenes. I'm not familiar with the original film or short story, but it seems like the daydream sequences will transition seamlessly throughout the film, which would be a cool touch for the drama film. Stiller is also directing the film, making it the first film he's directed since 2001's Zoolander. I enjoy his dramatic roles just a much as his comedic performances, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty's looking like a solid pick for an Adapted Screenplay Oscar.
The film, which will be in theaters on Christmas Day, also stars Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley Maclaine.
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
