Director Terry Gilliam is most known for his surrealist, hyperreal films teeming with style. Films like 12 Monkeys and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus evoke two of his most well-known styles: futuristic sci-fi satire and twisted, brightly-colored worlds. His next film, The Zero Theorem, is a combination of the two, as well as the final film in the director’s dystopian satire trilogy.

Starring Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), The Zero Theorem is about Waltz’ Qohen Leth, a computer genius assigned to solving the Zero Theorem, a formula meant to find the meaning of life. However, Qohen is racked with existential angst, and the prospect of discovering the meaning of life is too much for him to handle.

While The Zero Theorem made the festival run last year, it has yet to find US distribution. However, I’m sure the film will find its way to American audiences before the end of the year.
