Late last week, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer was rumored to be on Marvel’s shortlist for directors to replace Edgar Wright on their upcoming Ant-Man adaptation. Apparently, the director is a hot commodity, as it appears that Sony and Columbia Pictures are also interested in Fleischer to helm the stagnant Ghostbusters 3 production. Following Harold Ramis’ untimely death earlier this year, the film appeared to be dead in the water without Egon Spengler in the mix, but Sony and Columbia are still insistent on working out a way to get the film off the ground.
While The Lego Movie co-directors/co-writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were rumored to take over directorial duties, it was quickly shot down. Original Ghosbusters director Ivan Reitman was set to direct the film, but Ramis’ passing was a sign for the famed director to step away from the project. With Ghostbusters 3 still in the earliest of production stages, it might give Fleischer enough time to familiarize himself with the latest script and find a way to have the film fit with his talents.
