Sean Faylon: "Wonderful Life" Video

Sean Faylon

Great song and video from Sean Faylon featuring Playboy Tre.  The song appears on Faylon's recently released, Be Everywhere.  It's message is not a new one, but a necessary one that is sometimes overlooked.  There are many times when I think things are tough, and then realize that my immediate mood and happiness is in my control.  I can decide to worry about stuff and be depressed etc, or live in the moment and assume control of each situation... In other news,  Motion Family did a great job capturing a wide variety of shots, and turn in yet another quality video.  See it below.

Yelawolf: Listening To Beanie Sigel

Yelawolf

"This is my paradox," Yelawolf tells me on a warm afternoon in late April.  It's been a month since he was the talk of Austin, Texas tearing down stages at an alarming rate, while remaining humble and hungry, passing out copies of his acclaimed Trunk Muzik mixtape after shows and throughout Texas streets.  It's been a few weeks since word broke that he was signing to Interscope and Jimmy Iovine, who has quite a track record with new talent and out of the box emcees.  Yelawolf is certainly that.  Beyond being a white rapper, Yelawolf is also a product of Alabama, and Tennesse, moving around with this mother as a child.  Skateboarding was his passion, and each city brought a different skate community, which would become his crew.  His crew also included guys that owned pickup trucks adorned with confederate flags and Hip Hop music blasting from their speakers, a somewhat confusing site.

"This is what I deal with," he continues about the dichotomy of hanging with "rednecks listening to Beanie Sigel."  For a while Yelawolf struggled with what to put in his music, and if he could really rap about everything going on in his life.  "I just realized, 'f**k it.'  G-d put it in my path to talk about it, and to use it."

Use it he did.  His knowledge and taste for classic rock propelled him into multiple opportunities supplying interpolation of rock standards for new Hip Hop songs and Hip Hop artists.  It also opened him up a large fanbase of kids that could relate to Yelawolf, his background, as well as his ability to touch on multiple cultures.  The paradox turned out to be a strength, as well as something that is slowly captivating everyone who hears the music.

We caught up with Yelawolf to ask him what's changed over the last year, what he can and can't talk about, Bob Dylan as a rapper, and much much more.  Check out our full exclusive interview below.

Every DJ Should Watch This: DJ Intervention

DJ Intervention

This isn't the latest s**t, but it is something that is dope and a must watch for every DJ, DJ hopeful etc.  More and more I realize how lucky I am to have started DJing before the invention of Serato as well as the explosion of online and digital music.  Having to track down and dig for every record produces a certain relationship with the music that can't be fostered digitally.  It's also a lot different blending without the visuals provided by Serato, or any of the push-button techniques.  Anyway, "DJ Intervention" follows DJ Rich Kid who DJs only with his iPod and gets gigs because his dad is loaded.  His girlfriend stages an intervention to get him off the whack sauce with help from DJ Arabian Prince, DJ Rhettmatic and others.  See it below.

Upper Playground Presents: 'Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe"

David Choe

Upper Playground is at it again with a new documentary called 'Dirty Hands' chronicling the life and times of renowned street artist David Choe. This documentary is over 8 years in the making and features an in-depth look into the artist David Choe has grown to be. Says Upper Playground:

"Director Harry Kim spent eight tumultuous years following a young near-schizophrenic street artist, David Choe, who devises numerous criminal schemes that make it possible for him to hitchhike across the globe.  Choe skirts the legal constraints of society to “freely” create his art.  His nonchalant law-breaking style lands him in jail several times, leading to his eventual demise in solitary confinement in a Tokyo prison cell.  He resurfaces with a radically religious agenda and returns home with hope to overcome his criminal temptations and repair his severed relationships.
The filmmaker (who has been friends with Choe since they met at the Korean-American teenage summer camp in 1990) captures the complexity of David’s life though a collage work of archived childhood home videos, still photographs, intimate artwork, animation, and eight years of footage shot on the road with the artist.
DIRTY HANDS premiered at the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival, and it won the Grand Jury Prize at the San Diego Asian Film Festival.  The film also screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival and the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival."

Dirty Hands opened in Los Angeles on April 30 and will run until May 6 at Laemmle Sunset 5 Theater in West Hollywood. The film premiers in San Francisco on May 21st at the Roxie Theater. Check the Upper Playground website for details and be sure to head out to the theaters this month if you're in California to support another solid project from UP. Check the trailer for the film after the jump.
