Let’s face it: as soon as you get a new smartphone and open up the package, it’s already old and outdated. After a year or two, you can’t wait to get the latest “it” product to hit the market because your trusty smartphone is not what it used to be. Either you deal with the lag issues bogging the phone down, or the battery doesn’t hold a charge like when it was brand new. Sometimes, you just like your phone and would only like to replace parts that are broken or old instead of shelling out money for an entirely new one.

Well if that’s the case then, the Motorola Project Ara might be of interest to you. Still in the development stages, it promises users will be able to swap out parts as needed. You would be able upgrade the battery, screen, and processor by simply putting the modular components onto an endoskeleton base. It’s an interesting concept, but will have to wait and see.
