Everybody is on their phone. Thousands of people everyday wear out their thumbs scrolling through photos, deciding which ones to post on Instagram. It’s so easy to do whether you’re a photographer or not; just point, shoot, choose a filter and post whatever you created. From funny duck face selfies, to breathtaking landscapes, to gritty city streets. Some use it as visual journal giving glimpses of their lives, while others have taken it to another level by creating works of art. All of us at Ruby Hornet are fans of the social media platform and decided to do a weekly series highlighting people whose Instagrams stand above the rest. Let us know in the comments section if you’d like to be featured, or let us know about some other cool Instagrams. Be sure to follow Ruby Hornet Instagram, too.

This week’s featured Instagram comes from @carissa_burton. There's just something about New York and the environment that provides so many photo opportunities, which is a reason I like this gallery. You get a mix of the nitty gritty of New York, and she also is able to capture its beauty through her lens. I really enjoy this Instagram account for the mix of photos that she takes as she hits the streets of NY. Take a look at a few of her shots, and be sure to head on over to her Instagram for more great photos.

Stacie Heiss For Treats! Magazine by Kody James

Stacie Hess For Treats! Magazine [NSFW]

Photography by Kody James

Treats! Magazine has enlisted photographer Kody James of Sugar Los Angeles to shoot a photo series grouped into two parts. The exclusive series stars Stacie Hess and captures her in some very intimate moments with a lot of candid shots. Kody's main goal when he started Sugar Los Angeles was to showcase women in a natural way with no lighting, make up, hair, or retouching in any of the images he created. I think he certainly has achieved and exceeded his goals with both of the photo sets. You can see the second photo set here where he captures model Stacie Hess during the magic hour using the natural light to produce some nice imagery. Make sure to view more of the photos and the first set here.

Facebook and Whatsapp logos

Facebook To Acquire WhatsApp

Most of us can just go ahead and download the WhatsApp app for free, but Mark Zuckerberg instead choose to buy the company for a reported $16 billion. After acquiring Instagram for a $1 billion two years ago, this latest move shows that Facebook is trying to stay at the top of the social network game and be the number one way to connect to people online.

Even though the popular messaging app is being acquired, it will retain its own brand and operate independently just like Instagram. WhatsApp has seen some huge growth with its message volume nearing the global telecom SMS volume, which is incredible for the start-up, which is only 5 years old. The company also has over 450 million users a month, with 70% of those users being online on any given day, and more than 1 million new users registering everyday. With this latest acquisition, it will be interesting to see how messaging services will evolve and its effects on mobile carriers. For more information on the acquisition, head on over to Facebook here.

Nikon's New D4s Camera Could Be Announced Next Week

It looks like Nikon is gearing up to announce the release date for their newest camera, the Nikon D4s. The date for the announcement will be February 25th, which comes on the heels of recent sightings of the D4s at both CES 2014 and the Sochi Olympics. The new flagship camera will be priced at $5,996.95 and will offer new features not seen in the previous Nikon D4 model, such as HD movie recording at 60FPS/1080p and a new focus mode for 3D tracking (you can see the rest of the rumored specs here). It will be interesting to see what this new Nikon will have built inside of it, but right now, it's all just rumors. My guess is Nikon will deliver the goods, since this will be its next flagship camera, so I would assume the camera will be built with quality.

Nikon Could Face Class Action Lawsuit For D600 Camera Issues

I guess it was only a matter of time before a lawsuit of some kind would be brought against Nikon for their faulty D600 full frame camera. It is being reported that US law firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein is gearing up to file a class-action lawsuit against Nikon because of the widely reported sensor dust and oil issues. Many have complained that the issues of dust and oil on the sensor have resulted in unusable, spotted images.

Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein said the following about the lawsuit:

"Nikon did not identify the cause for the debris buildup on the D600 sensor, nor acknowledge, as many consumers have alleged, that this is a widespread problem with the camera. To eliminate the unwanted and distracting spots in their photos, D600 owners have had to repeatedly send the camera to service technicians for cleaning at great inconvenience and cost."

There is still no definite answer that this lawsuit will actually go through, but I am sure it has gotten the attention of Nikon. Even with all of the problems, it has been reported that the company has replaced the shutter of cameras that have been sent in, but did not fix the issue 100%. Some people have been lucky enough to actually receive a new camera, sometimes even being replaced by the new Nikon D610. We'll see what happens and how will Nikon handle the issue, but if you own a Nikon D600 and are having issues with it, reach out to Nikon's customer service.

Earphones Just Got A Little Smarter With The Dash Smart Earphones

With all the smartphones and smartwatches out on the market, it was only a matter of time that we'd see a new product out. This time, though, the company Bragi has taken a different route and developed the Dash Smart Earphones. As the word "smart" suggests, these are not your standard run of the mill earphones that only offers sound; no, they offer so much more. The technology inside these small wireless earphones act not only as headphones, but an MP3 player, microphone, USB Stick, and fitness tracker all in one single bluetooth device. Through bluetooth, you are able to connect to your smartphone easily and listen to your music without the use of cords, and it also has 4GB of flash storage so you can upload songs to it directly in case you leave your phone at home. Another cool feature is the ability of being able to monitor your work outs with the Dash keeping track steps, oxygen saturation, heart rate and more. Also the built microphone can either cancel out sound when you need quite time as well as offering a way to hear whats going around like when your riding your bike on bust streets. As of right now, there are still being developed but you can head over to their website to learn more about the Dash Smart Earphones here and back their KickStarter campaign here.
