[Mixtape] Kilo Kish: K+

Kilo-Kish

Brooklyn based female MC Kilo Kish dropped her latest mixtape K+ this past week. The project sports an impressive list of features, with appearances from Childish Gambino, The Internet, A$AP Ferg, Earl Sweatshirt, SBTRKT, Flatbush Zombies, Vince Staples and more. K+ is chalk full of some ethereal vibes, as Kilo Kish's signature airy vocals contrast well with a unique flow and production that has been selected to enhance it all. The tape is available for direct download here and to stream below.

[Beat Tape] THEMpeople: Smoke Breaks

"Dope Inspires Dope"

Alluded to in their recent debut of their video series, The Collage, THEMpeople today release their first installment of their beat tape series.  Smoke Breaks is insanely smooth, drawing on influences ranging from soul to the growing lo-fi movement. The short EP pulls them all together into a cohesive 8 tracks, which the artists themselves refer to as "glitch soul" or "soul fi". Smoke Breaks will be a bi-weekly drop, so I suggest listening to this one now so you don't have to play catch up.

This is the first of a series depicting our experience producing and running a lab working with artists on a level thats much deeper than music. The visual is a collage of handheld footage accompanied by voice over starting with one of Chicagos illest art circles SAVEMONEY. Many people lack the understanding of true origins in culture and we have a tendency to unify our view of a person based on how the hype defines them. Collectives like SAVEMONEY create from a strong musical foundation built on passion and brotherhood. In this piece Vic Spencer speaks on the origins of SAVEMONEY from a more interpersonal light. The collage also features music from THEMpeoples up n coming beat tape Smoke Breaks.

[RH Video Premiere] Jarred A.G.: "Humiliation"

jarred-ag

Chicago rhymesayer Jarred A.G. has emerged as an artist to watch over the past months and with his debut project American Stepchild coming down the pipeline, we're proud to present his first video from the project, "Humiliation". Produced by Benny Nice, the track has a mellow groove, and A.G. lays down a smooth and melodic chorus to compliment, something we have yet to see from him. This is sonically the tightest track we've heard from the MC  and is a preview of more things to come. Watch the visuals below, directed by Kyle Garcia and edited by Yung Pharaoh, and stay tuned for more content from Jarred A.G. here at RH.

Paul-Oh

Local MC's Paul-Oh and Marcus Neiman have link for this latest track "Venison". The two MCs have worked closely with Supreme Regime in the past, but are currently unaligned as far as crews go. Doesn't seem to matter to these cats, as they wreck the production provided by Simon SMTHNG. Listen below and look for more from these two soon.

Etho: "Wake Up" (prod. Smoko Ono)

wakeup

We don't see much poetry grace the pages of Ruby Hornet, namely because we don't receive all that much, but the art form is a natural fit for us here. This latest comes from Etho, a Chicago youth who has put his poetic skills to work creating a piece about the teenage experience. Helping him bring the piece to fruition is Smoko Ono, a up-and-coming producer who's worked with many of Chicago's rising stars. A nod goes to Young Chicago Authors, who have helped kids like Etho expand their exposure to literature and who are nurturing a very positive scene in the city. Listen below.

[Video] Neak: "Slander" feat. Dave Bovyn

neak

Neak released one last video off of his Love Greater // The Prequel LP to round out 2012. Directed by Aaron Perkins Jr., "Slander" features guitarist Dave Bovyn and is produced by Rashid Hadee, who melds the guitar seamlessly into the groove. And that's Neak's cue to go in, doing so in a number of typical Chicago locales, highlighting the rougher and hardest hit neighborhoods in our fair city. Check the visuals below.
