[Video] Netherfriends: "Kimball House Freestyle" (feat. Blakkass Westley and Chandler London)

I've been talking extensively about Netherfriends lately, and with good reason; the one-man band/production team/musician extraordinaire has a lot of projects coming out this summer. We're talking New CHI-t50 Songs 50 States, and P3ACE. We've heard some of what's in store, including yesterday's "Jurassic Park V" with theWHOevers. Today, we're showing a small glimpse into Netherfriends' next project, Kind of Buzzed.

The video is very lo-fi, tying into the project's theme of improvisation inspired by Miles Davis' Kind of Blue album. Netherfriends and associates, this time featuring Chandler London and Impolite Society's Blakkass Westley freestyling over Netherfriends' instrumental improvisation and Danimal THA CHOPPA on MPC. It's different, rough, and not like normal hip hop releases, and it's exactly why I feel Netherfriends has been making such a wave in the local scene lately.

[Trailer 2] Man of Steel

http://youtu.be/dwYatpwrs8s

With Man of Steel out next week, one final look has been released exclusively by Nokia. If you haven't already been bombarded by the ample coverage and trailers for the next Superman film, this trailer should bring you up to speed. Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch) is attempting to do for Clark Kent what Christopher Nolan, who's also producing Man of Steel, did for Batman. Henry Cavill (The Tudors) will be donning the cape withRussell Crowe (Gladiator), Amy Adams (The Muppets), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), and Kevin Costner (The Bodyguard) are supporting.

Remember, Man of Steel will be setting out to flight in theaters next week.

[RH Premiere] #100Trill: "Chain Clean"

My LOD brothers are back at it with their next #100Trill drop, "Chain Clean." MikeJaxx steps back up to the mic to remind everybody he has as many bars as he has beats. Grade Aplus, in turn, drops another solid verse with his laid back delivery. Make sure you catch that Harold's reference in there, where it's the only acceptable place to get mild over hot sauce. "Chain Clean" had me take out the Pennies in My Pocket, buying some TurnUpSnacks, then taught me how to keep it 100Trill. You see what I did there?

Check out the song below, and if you haven't yet, make sure you pick up Grade APlus' #TurnUpSnacks here.

Alamo Drafthouse celebrates "The Summer of 1983"

http://vimeo.com/64586759

I've talked about what an amazing experience it is to watch a film at the Alamo Drafthouse before, and here's an example of some of the cool stuff they have planned this summer. 1983 was a big summer for films with huge releases like Return of the JediNational Lampoon's VacationJaws 3DOctopussyRisky Business, Scarface, and even more debuting during the hot season. 30 years later, studios would never dare releasing such high profile films with a release lineup as stacked as this. However, Hollywood was a different beast back during the initial 80s boom.

To commemorate such a monumental summer of films, Alamo Drafthouse has scheduled special screenings of the aforementioned movies and more! If you find yourself getting weird in Austin, I highly recommend stopping into a Drafthouse theater and catching some of these classic films. Imagine saying hello to Al Pacino's little friend on a large theater screen with one of the Drafthouse's amazing milkshakes. Austinites, you're living the dream!

You can watch the announcement video below and find the full list of screened films here.

Wu-Tang Clan: "Family Reunion"

Wu-Tang is set to return to the living world in the biggest way. While they have a few select tour dates this summer (including a headlining set at this year's North Coast Music Festival) and dropped a previously unreleased track, they're set to make things a little more official. To commemorate their 20th anniversary, the Wu has dropped a new record, "Family Reunion." With classic RZA production and vocals from Masta Killa, Method Man, and Ghostface Killah, the legendary group is ready to return for the new children of the world. This is all in preparation for a brand new album set to drop this fall.

Check out Wu-Tang's return below, including their confirmed summer tour dates. You can also pre-order the track on 7" on Soul Temple's bandcamp.

[Trailer] Getaway

http://youtu.be/7ZF4jzMJ1oI

On-screen chemistry is one of the most important aspects when it comes to a film. Two of the most talented actors in Hollywood could be paired together in a film, but if they lack chemistry, it's gonna be noticeable and, ultimately, weight the entire film down. With this debut trailer for Getaway, the question of chemistry is brought up, and with good reason.

Ethan Hawke (Before Midnight) stars as Brent Magna, a former race car driver, who must rescue his kidnapped wife from a mysterious man (Jon Voight). To do so, the kidnapper puts Brent through a series of challenges, which also includes hijacking a young girl's car, played by Selena Gomez (Springbreakers). Even in this first trailer, you can tell there's a disconnect between Gomez and Hawke. I liked Gomez' role in Springbreakers, and I'm a huge fan of Hawke's work, but the two of them together, in an action/race thriller seems... off. Also, weirdly enough, a lot of the cop cars in the trailer have a tendency to flip vertically as if they're being plowed by those tumbler cars in Fast & Furious 6.

However, I'll withhold judgment until August 30th, when the film is released to theaters. You can watch the trailer for Getaway below or in HD on the film's iTunes Movie Trailers page.

[Trailer] Insidious Chapter 2

[youtube id="RqezKZov1fo"]

The next chapter in the Insidious story has just been unveiled. James Wan, director of the first Insidous and creator of the Saw franchise, is returning to direct the next in the occult horror film, Insidious Chapter 2. The film takes place after its precursor where evil spirits have followed Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) to his home. Of course, those who've seen the first film know that he's hiding a secret.

The trailer hints at all of the scary shenanigans to be seen, including ominous baby monitor voices, flickering candles, mysterious voices, and a litany of horror tropes. It's good to see the original cast of Wilson (Watchmen), Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), Lin Shaye (Cellular), and Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3). It'll be interesting to see what Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell (Saw) are capable of doing to further expand on the Insidious story when it hits theaters on September 13th.

theWHOevers: "Jurassic Park V" (feat. and prod. by Netherfriends)

Netherfriends is a ridiculous workhorse. With no less than three projects set to be released this summer, the one-man band/producer is the real embodiment of a music grind. Following our premiere of the ShowYouSuck and ELEE X-featured "Good Vibes," our homies at GoWhereHipHop just released the next song off of New CHI-t, "Jurassic Park V." The song is a joint by theWHOevers, part of their series of WHOWednesday drops, with production and a vocal feature by the aforementioned Netherfriends.

The duo trade verses over some smooth instrumentation. It's all a grind, but these three talented artists are up for the challenge. Check out "Jurassic Park V" below, and prepare yourselves for some big releases from both Netherfriends and theWHOevers this summer.

"Jurassic Park V" delivers a raw organic sound that can be described as a smooth but hard breeze that hits you in the face; one that prepares you for battle to come out victorious. J.Arthur and Dotkom’s delicately placed delivery compliments the production majestically with J stating “don’t know what you waiting for but we in the race for greatness” and Netherfriends’ melody following up stating that they will, “Get to the top… keep on climbing”

"Jurassic Park V" belongs to a Netherfriends compilation album titled “New CHI-t” with a proposed 06/28 release date that also features many of Chicago’s rising artists.
