Chief Keef Faces Eviction, Jail Time

UPDATE (2:18 PM CST): We just got word from Keef's manager, Idris Peeda Pan, as he exited court with Keef today that the GBE star will not be sent to jail today but will be booked October 15 for a two week stay behind bars for a parole violation after a drug test turned up positive for marijuana. The reason for the court visit today was because of a positive urine test a few weeks ago with his probation officer. More to come soon.

And the saga continues. It seems as though it is a never-ending trail of negative press for young Chief Keef. The latest issue arose after Keef's landlord of his $1 million Northbrook, Il., mansion filed eviction papers against the rapper alleging two months of unpaid rent. Payments on the home reportedly were $4,700 a month and because of non-payment his landlord is looking for up to $10,000. Keef's manager, Idris Peeda Pan, when asked for comment on the non-payment said, "the entire basement flooded a few months back, among other problems in the house.  We came out of pocket to resolve things, ultimately leading to the decision that the home is unsuitable.  We're currently looking for alternative locations in both the Northbrook, IL area and LA."

The latest charges come on the heels of a string of run-ins and lawsuits for the GBE artist. A London promoter won a $230,000 suit after Keef decided not to show up to a show, simply because he didn't respond to the lawsuit. He has a tendency to do this, skipping out on two shows in Tucson recently in a one-week span. All of this caused concert promotion company Scoremore to issue a press release late yesterday announcing the cancellation of Keef's shows in San Antonio and Austin, saying in the letter to customers, "Yesterday we were told that Chief Keef was summoned back to court and that he may indeed going back to jail. We are not willing to gamble with your money, and quite frankly, he has failed to report for some of his recent shows, which made us feel like the promises of change were aspirational rather than actual…. We will not allow that to happen." As for the potential of jail time, Peeda Pan had this to say: "We don't know for sure, however its highly possible he may be detained when he goes to court. We're staying optimistic."

[RH First Glance] Crystal Antlers: "Rattlesnake"

California rockers, Crystal Antlers, released their video for "Rattlesnake" via Noisey earlier today. The artistic look at contemporary urban waste and emptiness and clever editing recall the Dogtown days in L.A. and rightfully so, as the video was shot by surf/skate/graffiti legend CR Stecyk III and matches the aesthetic of the mellow, grooving sound of "Rattlesnake," the first single off the band's upcoming album, Nothing is Real, due out October 15 on Innovative Leisure. Along with the video, Crystal Antlers also announced a North American tour which kicks off the day after the album release at Soda Bar in San Diego. Check out the video and dates below.

[Video] Kanye Goes Off at Pusha T's Listening Party

Kanye has never been one to keep his thoughts to himself and so, after being unveiled as a surprise guest (because why just show up anywhere?) at Pusha T's listening party at Industria Superstudio in NYC, he took to the mic to express his views on a few things including corporations and the lack of fucks he gives, as well as just generally turning up throughout the first listen of Pusha's My Name is My Name due out October 8. Check out the video below.

[Video] Roman Flowrs: "Holographic Card"

Chicago artist Roman Flowrs released the brief visual for his single, "Holographic Card," from his #OneHellOfAPromo, which drops October 8, yesterday directed by Ralph Laureen. One of the most refreshing things about hip hop in Chicago in 2013 is the rise of multi-dimensional artists that can do more than just rap. Perhaps bolstered by acts like Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Tokyo Shawn and the rest of the "soul" side of Chicago, we are seeing it more often, and I can't  say I'm mad about it. Video is here below, check it out.

Lupe Fiasco: "Piece of Paper Cup of Jayzus"

It seems as though Lupe is permanently resigned to staying on the sidelines, throwing occasional potshots at the game at large. He's not Papoose by any means, too lyrical and talented for all that, but by allowing others to dictate what he does, Fiasco is quickly making that his lane. On "Piece of Paper of Jayzus," the name itself an obvious toss at Jay-z and Kanye West, who gave him the spotlight in the first place. Fiasco basically goes in for a full seven minutes of telling listeners how he's different, even spending more than a handful of bars simply talking about Earl Sweatshirt and Odd Future. To explain further, allow me to take a page out of Louis C.K.'s book: Of course Lupe is one of the best lyricists of our time, but maybe he needs to stop arguing with women on Twitter and climbing mountains and just make music. This was . . . something. It's understood that hip-hop is a restaurant with many dishes, Lupe just hasn't been serving to my liking lately. When he first came out, it was obvious what set Lupe apart, but now it seems as though he's trying to tell us what that is instead of doing it and PPCJ just reinforces that sentiment. Let me know if you agree, listen below!

Interesting line: Told Jean, Foxy, & Rah the greatest rapper's a girl/They said the greatest rapper's a guy

[Video] ProbCause: "Prelude to Summer Pt. 1"

He may be out of town, on tour with Cherub, but the homie ProbCause dropped a new video, "Prelude to Summer Pt. 1" featuring footage from his North Coast set, as well as party scenes from The O'My's place a couple weeks ago. The track, produced by Na$im Williams and Drew Mantia gets some visual aid from Elijah Alvarado who shot and edited. If nothing else, Prob always knows how to put on for Chicago and this video is as hometown as it gets, "the city that works, but also knows how to relax." If you haven't already, pick up The Recipe Vol. 2 and check in on Prob as he crosses the country on tour.
