[Video] Red Bull Sound Select Sounds of the City: ShowYouSuck

Red Bull took Chicago hip hop artist ShowYouSuck to one of his favorite venues, Reggie's Rock House in the South Loop, his backyard and Code of Conduct tattoo parlor in his hometown as part of their "Sounds of the City" series. "At Reggie's Rock Club I reached greatness," says Show in the intro, "it's the location for a lot of benchmarks in my career: first sold out show and it has the best buffalo chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life, hands down." Red Bull takes ShowYouSuck back to hang out, eat a chicken sandwich and shoot a video for his song, "Big Gulp" off One Man Pizza Party 3: Rest In Pizza. The video comes on the heels of his visual release for "Girls, Nachos" last week and is another good look for the Treated Crew/LOD member.

Apple Announces iPhone 5S, 5C

iphone-5s-5c

Legions of the tech-savvy flocked to Cupertino, California today like Dorothy and friends traveling the Yellow Brick road to Oz to find out what CEO Tim Cook and the team had up their his sleeve this time. With murmurs of 5S and 5C, not much was due to change, but folks showed up and logged on in droves to get the news of the latest products to don the iconic bitten apples logo. With all the rumors of a lower-end plastic version and even a fully gold-encased version, the announcements were a bit closer to the chest, tinkerings with earlier versions and a reason to have a bunch of people over for a show.

Highlights from the announcements included talks of the latest operating system, IOS 7, which Craig Federigh, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering said would "quickly become the world's most popular operating system" and included a new home and lock screen as well as a swipe feature from the bottom of the phone that brings up a new control center. Siri got a male voice upgrade and ability to do Wikipedia searches. Playing on the Instagram craze, the camera will feature built-in features and new ways to group your pictures by year/location. As one of the nearly 200 new features in IOS 7 has to be iTunes Radio, which premieres on the new operating system available for free September 18 that Federigh described as "getting a whole new device."

[Album] The Bloody Beetroots: "Hide"

Sir Cornelius Bob Rifo, better known by his stage name: The Bloody Beetroots, is easily one of the most refreshing acts in electronic dance music today. The Italian artist is intent on bringing instruments back to the genre and continues on that journey here on HIDE, released in a couple weeks but streaming on Rollingstone.com, by tapping Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee for "Raw", Theopholus London for "All The Girls (Around The World)", Peter Frampton doing vocals on "The Beat" and even the King himself, Sir Paul McCartney lends some wailing vocals on "Out of Sight". While at EDC Chicago earlier this summer, I had the chance to sit down with "Sir Bob" and talk to him about his penchant for bringing instrumentality back to a genre that is rife with lifeless DJs. "I want to bring back music, so you will see that I use a lot of instruments-that's why EDM is kind of stale now, because everybody is playing records and it's full of DJs and I want to bring back music and that's why I'm pushing," said The Bloody Beetroots. He went on to say, "I really want the music back, I want people to play instruments. It's becoming all DJs and young people who dodge the feeling of a human source. I want to deliver this kind of message to people and say 'you are producing this stuff in the studio, ok, let's do something more now,' bring back funk, rock-well produced music." Check out his well-produced tracks below, premiered on Rolling Stone.

Lorde

[Video] Lorde: "Handle My Liquor"

16-year-old New Zealand native, Lorde, is definitely making a name for herself from the tiny South Pacific country. While performing in her home country for the iHeartRadio concert she took things up a notch by stealing a page out of Kanye West's book, performing he own rendition of "Hold My Liquor". The young songstress deftly maneuvers between Ye', Justin Vernon and Chief Keef's parts, without the marbles that seem to be swimming in Keef's mouth when he sang the original hook. She goes on to actually spit Kanye's verse pretty well, definitely worth checking out below.

[Video] Kanye West: "Bound 2" on Jimmy Fallon

Right on the heels of his announcement of a Yeezus tour, Ye' unexpectedly stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform "Bound 2" live for the first time. In his now-signature kilt over leather pants, Kanye, as usual went big with Charlie Wilson singing the hook live and backing from a children's choir, and The Roots. Of course, where there's Kanye, there's usually controversy and the Fallon set was no exception as West changed the opening lines of the song to apparently poke fun at beau Kim Kardashian's ex, Ray-J, rhyming: "Brandy's little sister lame, man, he know it now/When a real brother hold you down you supposed to drown." Interesting.  For his part, Fallon has made himself a pop-culture icon from his late night desk by connecting with viewers through music, without The Roots as his house band it's not totally certain he would have made it out of his first season, and this Kanye performance adds to the growing list of great acts to grace the late night stage with electrifying live sets.
